***If you're a fan of Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Lost City, King Solomon's Mines, then you'll appreciate this plot. Treasure hunting with a side of romance. Clue delivered to the wrong person, meeting a wildly handsome archeologist, getting drawn into the scheme; it's all a setup for a good story.

This is not the first time recently I've run across a female lead character that's mostly unlikeable. I like witty banter and enemies to friends trope but this fell flat. Adriana’ had a sarcastic tone for most of the book. Andrew has the patience of a saint and takes it with a smile; how unbelievable. Their attraction was instant and they had a rocking sex life but romance was in short supply. To me the most likeable character was William the gay brother. He was fun, fearless, thoughtful, romantic; he could have been the lead love interest.

For me the plot was a little sluggish and could have used more obstacles in the way, chase scene running from the bad guy. If romance isn't the point then the adventure needs to be upped. The ending is left such that it could become a series of Dr. Jones books.

Digging Dr Jones by Olivia Jackson

With all that going for it, I was sold and requested this and was so happy to receive an advance copy. With banter, adventure, and decent spice, I enjoyed this in spite a bit of a bumpy start.

Full disclosure - it took me a while to get into the story and I really didn’t love the ending but overall, I was impressed with and enjoyed this debut. I look forward to reading more by the author.

I loved The Lost Bookshop and The Story Collector so I went into this one really looking forward to more magical realism in historical fiction.

Unfortunately, the best part of the book (for me) was the food descriptions.

I look forward to reading Ms Woods’s future works but this one wasn’t a favorite.

Enjoyable read. I could almost smell the desperation of the writers in the air. The two writers were just as I'd imagine they would be when stuck and there's a deadline looming. I though it dragged or went over the same ground a few times, but it was worth getting past them. The cloudy father/son/boyfriend relationship when revealed had me shaking my head, I thought it kind of unnecessarily convoluted. The plot is one I haven't run into before in a romance book and having the writers swap genres for inspiration worked well for me. I found it entertaining, original and had an enjoyable couple of nights relaxing with the book.

Fairly cute and easy read. I did have a problem with the main character, Gemma being unlikeable for most of the first third of the book. She had a chip on her shoulder and a bad attitude underneath a desire to people-please. Kind of a doormat, not happy about it but not willing to rock the boat. When she starts to come around it makes for an interesting awakening. Gemma is very good at her editing job at a publishing house but of course wants to write her own book. There are family dynamics that are relatable if a bit over the top. It adds to her people pleasing while gritting her teeth behavior. I'd have given in for a chance to spend a week in Tuscany too. It's amazing and my favorite place on earth - at the moment.

Ben is the new guy at work and gets the job Gemma wants. He's nice, people like him and he's successful. This makes Gemma jealous and rude. Ben has no idea, he's such a good guy he doesn't get her thinly veiled contempt. It's a pleasure to watch him bring her out of her rut. His encouragement makes all the difference. Their HEA was a bit of a twist, I like the way it played out.
