One lazy fast tutorial. #windisam #hodahassouna #Sam #Dean #videoediting

I have been getting a lot of comments lately on my fics which basically boil down to: Now do this. As I generally receive these with some regularity - as likely many who submit to fandom are familiar with - I have not given them much attention. Reading them and addressing other aspects of the comment where able, thanking the commenter for their time and attention when unable. While I appreciate enthusiasm and welcome opinions and insights, I’d like to take a moment to point out that even when your comment is intended as praise, there are times when it can come across quite differently to the person to whom you are leaving it.
I understand wanting to see more of something, or another aspect of it. I am a fan myself and there are plenty of wonderful creators whom I follow and admire. But, wanting and demanding are two different things.
You have to remember that the person you are writing to is in fact a person. Someone with a life outside of the internet and creating fanwork. Sometimes situations arise that simply affect them negatively. Sometimes something was intended to be complete from the very beginning. Occasionally the creator might randomly be inspired to continue along a track they began, but that has to be their own journey. You cannot expect creators of fanwork (or any works) to cater to your every desire. They have desires too. And if nothing more will come to them, or simply will not come to them at that moment, there is nothing to be done but wait.
Yes, it can be frustrating. Believe me, I understand. And yes, it can be upsetting when they abandon a certain aspect of their work, but it is their work to abandon. Their work to pick up again when and if they so choose.
There is nothing wrong with encouraging creators. It is very considerate of you to take a moment and let them know that they have touched you in some way. Often, it helps to know that people are enjoying something, to bolster a creator to continue on. But, being considerate enough to leave a comment also extends to the content of that comment.
When you say, at any point ‘Now do this’ you take away from any positive commentary you left before. There is nothing quite like reading a comment and feeling pleased and getting to the end and the inevitable ‘Now do this. And this. And this.’
Please try to remember that any and all fanwork is created in a person’s private free time. They are sacrificing their own time and energy to create something and sharing it with you - something they do not need to do. Please be mindful of that and respectful in your comments. Telling a creator ‘Now do this’ takes away from the content they’ve already shared. It is okay to want more. It is okay to encourage a creator by sharing your desire for more. But there is also a way to go about it, and a way not to.
Instead of ‘Now do this’ how about trying ‘It’d be cool if’ or ‘Have you considered this?’ or ‘If you have the time, it might be nice to see’
Allow the creator to retain the ownership of their implemented idea. Do not take away any fondness they have for the work they’ve produced by overhauling it to suit your own needs.
Generally, creators really enjoy discussion. There is a process and it is nice to know other people feel the way you do. That people understand what you were trying to convey. That they enjoy your take on a given situation or relationship. There are exceptions, of course, but that doesn’t mean you cannot be considerate in your attempts at conversation. Nor that you are incapable of respecting their wishes either way.
Also, please keep in mind, that while everyone has a Fandom flagship, generally, people can and do enjoy more than one thing at a time. Which means content they produce can swing between different fandoms or ships. That is perfectly okay.
It is not a priority of a creator of fanwork to cater to an audience. They have to first and foremost be enjoying it themselves. And sometimes, that means you will not enjoy all the content they produce. That is also okay. But it is everyone’s right to find enjoyment in their fandom whenever and wherever they choose.
So please, the next time you read a fic or see a pic, or a comic, and find yourself wanting more, take a moment to remind yourself that the creator of that fanwork still has to get up in the morning and go to work or go to school. They still have to deal with assholes in their daily lives. And Fandom is everyone’s escape. Remember that they are people first. That they are fellow fans. And then be respectful in your request.
Please, please stop the ‘Now do this’ trend.

One quick thing: KDIE
Newbies, like me, need to verify first your email address to unlock some
features(like CSS) here in Tumblr. I know I could still use Tumblr without
verifying it. It just sucks when you want to edit your blog but you still can't.
"WHY YOU NO VERIFY!?"
Oh well, if you could help me with my problem feel free to message me. :)
2nd day in the Tumblr world. HOHO. (Still have no followers. ;_;)
