Here's the thing: I understand that the league is trying to make it acceptable to be gay and play hockey at the same time. But if people still don't feel comfortable being out and playing, there's a reason for it, and articles like this are harmful. Reasons could include: Their family might not know, They may not want a specific teammate to find out, They may not want to be treated as the "FIRST GAY HOCKEY PLAYER IN THE NHL!!!11!11!", but basically, the point is, there's a reason they aren't out yet, and Patrick Burke and Andrew Ladd and Dion Phaneuf said it: the league is ready for a gay player. That doesn't mean a player is ready to be out. And until those players feel it is the right time FOR THEM, AND NO ONE ELSE, you should just let them be. I'm none too thrilled that people feel the need to write an article blaming NHL'ers for not coming out, like they are doing something wrong. So after that, Shame on you Pierre LeBrun for "wondering why there's no openly gay players", when articles like this are part of it.
