The Graveyard Shift #1 Written and Illustrated by Chelsea Oleta @oletarts (Dunno if you remember me, but I talked to you and got this copy in APCC18. 😅) I've been considering the idea of making mini reviews of Indie comics I come across when I can, so here's the first attempt. It's mostly because I think it's a cool idea and I generally like the idea of supporting artists. So lezzdodiiizz! 👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻 First of all, I'd like to say that I was drawn to picking this up because I like the paranormal on a comic or cartoon, and this obviously has that vibe. It's a big plus that it's a Filipino character, which was what got me really excited. Cover art is good too; I like the pastel browns, violets, and greens. Eye catching title design as well and I love how the character is lounging and waiting (gives an idea of what's inside already). The protagonist is easily loveable. I mean, the first three pages and her personality stands out already. I'm diggin' the Baybayin magic spells and how her abilities were introduced. Her mother is an equally interesting character and I love how their relationship is first presented (especially with the dialogues on her skills). Also, the mom is a freakin' badass. Paneling is good, keeps the page turning. The backgrounds were drawn nicely to get the feel of the environment without getting in the way of highlighting the characters--which by the way, both have cute facial expressions. Overall, good first issue. Kind of brings to mind half of how Pilot episodes of cartoons usually start out and one would be interested to continue.
