Top five best buddie moments! 💛
put “top 5” anything in my ask and i will answer ok go
just say you hate me??? ✌️ okay, an UNRANKED list of 5 top buddie moments:
Eddie telling Buck about the will — 4x14 “Survivors”
like, the Will is the Buddie Thesis Statement. What do you MEAN Edmundo Middle Name Diaz put his Platonic Co-worker in his Very Legal Will to take care of his son if he died? WHAT DO YOU MEAN? And it happened a year ago and he only told Buck about it because he almost died AGAIN.
He had already looked at Christopher’s future and chosen Buck. Over his parents. Quietly. Legally. Permanently. Insane behavior from a man allegedly just being normal about his best friend. AND THEY'VE NEVER TALKED ABOUT IT AGAIN. They just keep carrying on like everything's all good. IT'S NOT ALL GOOD.
“You can have my back any day” — 2x01 “Under Pressure”
You kind of have to include the origin story.
Buck spends MAYBE half an episode acting like Eddie’s existence is a personal attack (probably because he saw him shirtless and was so turned on he lost half his blood volume to his dick what?), Eddie calls him a badass, Buck practically short-circuits, and then suddenly their entire dynamic is locked in. It's ridiculous. It's foundational. It's the show accidentally inventing a slow-burn partnership in real time and then being stuck with the consequences forever.
Buck digging through the mud for Eddie — 3x15 “Eddie Begins”
This is one of those Buddie moments where the show is technically doing a standard rescue episode, but emotionally it is doing something much more.
Eddie is trapped underground, drowning, life flashing before his eyes, and Buck is trapped aboveground absolutely unraveling. And yes, everyone is scared. Everyone loves Eddie. The 118 is a family. But Buck’s reaction is filmed and performed with a particular kind of raw desperation. He's not just worried the way everyone else is worried – he is frantic. He is clawing at the earth with his bare hands like he can personally drag Eddie back up through 40ft of mud with the force of his will alone.
And it's such a Buck moment, too, because Buck’s love is so often shown as action before it becomes language. AND! This happens so early in their relationship. This is before the shooting, before the Will, before the lightning. They've known each other a year and Buck is like this. I mean, come on.
Buck falling asleep on Eddie’s couch — 6x12 “Recovery”
Okay, so Buck's been struck by lightning, and he's had his coma dream, and he's physically alive but existentially scrambled. He's trying to understand what happened to him, what he saw, what it means to be alive again, and he's having trouble settling back inside his own life. And there's all this noise around him — people worrying, people projecting, people needing him to be okay — and Buck is doing that Buck thing where he tries to make himself manageable for everyone else.
But then he goes to Eddie's house and immediately falls asleep on the couch. Sits down, lights out. The first place where he hasn't felt like he has to perform the act of Being Okay. It's quiet, he's safe, and he can finally unlock into rest. In Eddie's house.
The tsunami aftermath — 3x03, “The Searchers”
This is really about locking Buck, Eddie, and Christopher into a family. I know a lot of this is fanon vs. canon, but after the tsunami recedes, after it's clear Chris and Buck are both okay (don't forget Buck is dealing with his whole crushed by a firetruck/blood thinners thing), Eddie brings Christopher to Buck and refuses to let Buck turn this into a failure. He protected Chris. Chris remembers Buck saving him. Eddie trusts Buck with his son more than anyone. These are the pieces that help build the foundation Buddie architecture.
But I'm supposed to pretend it's all platonic? Sure, fine, whatever.
Honorable mentions: Buck coming out to Eddie. The actual shooting because come on. Chris calling Buck for help during Eddie's breakdown. The Christmas Elf assuming they're partners. Buck and Eddie saving each other in Season 9. Eddie leaving for Texas.
Sketch prompt: couple sleeping, curled up together entwined. Would love either WWX/LWJ from Untamed or Jester/Caleb from CR. Your art is gorgeous!
Oh thank you! I’m still deep in the mdzs zone so this was the instant winner, then it also became fic art because that’s just how it is some days.
Happy Birthday, bb!
thanks so much, old friend! means a lot ❤❤
oldcoyote: it's such a big thing in this fandom to call him Zira and i'm just ????? i cannot do it
it’s just like... idk... unnecessary forced familiarity?? when it’s crowley, he already has a nickname for aziraphale and it’s v v good.
ALTHOUGH i did find a fic where another armageddon happened and aziraphale caused yet another rebellion and went by “zirah” and it gave me end!verse vibes

"oldcoyote started following you"
this is like a full circle moment bc i've followed you since the dark days
Of ALL the things you've written across all fandoms dating back as far as you can remember what is, for you, the absolute best one you've ever done?
ask box is open game thing
fucking RUDE jk i love you
I've been thinking about this all through yoga yes I do yoga shut UP and I know there's an easy answer but I don't think it's the right answer
I really really loved this Sterek fic: Invitation to Fate. It's got magic and tarot cards and actual chapters and I dunno. It came out really easily, which is not often the case for me and even though I haven't read it in like, over a decade (dear fuck I'm old), I remember loving it. I think it stands up (despite the weird AO3 formatting that I'm gonna fix right now yikes)
and for recency bias: no specters, no spirits, just us. A ghost!buck buddie fic that I really enjoyed the writing of. Like, not just the story, but the actual writing. And I probably should have given it another 10k but I'm still very fond of her.
RUN DMC — run's house for @oldcoyote (just in case)
