Something that gets me is how we're seeing Amerie be this thoughtful, caring good friend from the start of the show. It's easy to like her, because she tries and she pays for her mistakes, when the rest of the characters spending time hating on her do not put forth nearly as much effort or face consequences. But the show tells you she's been awful; she has been mean, a bit of a bully, and a bad friend, not immune to the peer pressure. It's played for laughs for us watching, but throwing a basketball at someone's face because they listen to Ed Sheeran or unleashing a prawn in someone's belongings is not model behavior. Malakai liked her the moment they met in the classroom and she took 2Β½ episodes to come around. I know all of us watching with any sense know he's the hottest guy on the show, but Amerie never would've given a guy like that a chance before and he wouldn't fit the status she was desperate for. That's why in Malakai's note when he says he watched her become a better person, it hits home. As someone who cared what people thought, she now stands up for what she believes in, tries to do the right thing, and is there for her friends even when they don't deserve it (which he especially knows from firsthand experience). Like he put it, she has always been amazing, but now she's just even more incredible. Anyway, gonna go cry over the meaning of the letter.
