Abby had anticipated Clarkeâs attitude regarding her dating again. It may have been almost three years, and maybe it was more of the who than anything else. Marcus had been Jakeâs best friend for as long as Abby could remember. She had never planned on having feelings for him, and honestly, the way she felt was like a suckerpunch to the gut.
She couldnât see herself dating anyone else, and she had tried at first. There had been the guy that fixed her car when it had broken down, and the nurse from the hospital where she worked. The attraction just never lived up to what she felt for Marcus. As it turned out, he had been fighting his feelings about her as well.
âClarke, weâre not doing anything wrong.â She leaned against the kitchen counter as they started an open line of communication. âWe like each other. Iâm lonely. When heâs around, Iâm not. Why canât you try and understand?â
