I absolutely love Tendo. What're your thoughts on him? :3c
YES ME TOO!
I absolutely love him! It’s always fun with someone who is so obviously INTENTIONALLY dramatical. It pops the 4th wall a little, since most oneliners and emotional moments are “in universe” pretty normal. But Tendou in no way acting in a way that anyone would just be “huh” over. Even in the haikyuu universe where BALL IS LIFE he is over the top.
And I do have a weak spot for those who take on the antagonists role themselves (see: Oikawa). Tendou honestly seems really sweet, he has a role he plays. And among so many teams and players that takes the game SO SERIOUSLY, it’s a relief to see someone who loves it, takes it seriously, but also goofs a little. He dares to make silly poses, and tease strong players, naming cool attacks. He enjoys the Game more than the Sport, if you understand me?
He also brings some dynamic and freshness to the otherwise very powerheavy Shiratorizawa. It’s a team that focus on winning, and those who are strong can be a part of it. The fact that his strength is of a completely different type than Ushijima, Oikawa and Kageyama also alows us a new perspective on Ushi, which is very much needed. The fact that they are friends is wonderful and weird. He doesn’t disregard Ushi’s feelings or anything, but he pulls him along and is in no way intimidated by him. Probably because they are very different, and are both intimidating in different ways. There’s no competetivness between them AT ALL (which is impressive in itself in a sports team) but they still respect each other for their skills and good sides. I’m not sure he “gets him” completely either, but he certainly knows him better than most!
