Something about me is that I never stopped thinking about the implied grief and descent into insanity that the Hero of Kvatch experienced after the end of the Oblivion Crisis. In the back of my mind, the HoK becoming the leader of the Knights of the Nine is like a death knell for their attachment to reality. They took the spot and responsibilities of a man infamous for the bloody genocide he enacted after the demon worshipping slave owners killed his lover. Achilles but a thousand times more vengeful.
The HoK's implied vendetta against the destructive forces of the daedra is the point of no return for their inevitable mantling of Sheogorath. To become the very thing they sought to destroy and all that.
But fueled by grief, possibly solely for Martin, but perhaps also for their sense of purpose. For the way the world as they knew it was supposed to work. For a person so steadfastly obedient to the crown of the empire, so dedicated to the protection of their lands... the Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles DLCs show the downward arc of a person who shattered at their peak.
