Wistfulness (14/34)
As Sarah sat down again, she turned to James. âMum wants to know if youâre bringing anyone to the funeral. And she added that as long as youâre not calling âthat girlâ your girlfriend, it would be very inappropriate to bring her. Her words, not mine.â
âSeriously?â James asked, âHer mother just passed away, and this is what sheâs worried about? That woman never ceases to amaze meâŚâ
He shook his head, âEither way, no, I wonât bring anyone to the funeral. I assume that, by âthat girl,â she meant Leona, and Leona has moved away. I wouldnât have brought her even if she hadnât, anyway.â
Everyone now looked at James. âWhat?â He said.
âLeona moved away?â Sarah asked, âAre you okay?â
âOf course Iâm okay,â James said, sounding agitated. âLeona and I had sex, thatâs all. Now, Iâll just have to do that with others. And on that note, please excuse me.â
He stood up and approached a girl sitting at the counter. His friends looked at him in silence.
