Hi Zaza! Everytime someone asks me if I'm a homosexual (and this happens really often) I say I'm not but I feel like I'm lying them because I'm asexual demi-homoromantic (gay) and I hate word 'homosexual' so much. Am I lying them or not? Also, why am I so uncomfortable with people saying this word around me? I asked my friends (one of them is bi and the other one hetero) to not use it but they say me there is nothig offensive with it and it is okay to use it then.
you are not alone turtledove, homosexual has widely fallen out of favour. i mean, ppl are free to use whatever term they want to describe themselves, but no one should use tht term unless they know the person wants to be refered to ask such.Â
the reason itâs offensive, is tht âhomosexualâ is a clinical term, historically associated with being; deviant, hypersexual, and mentally incompetent. none of which are true, which is why itâs no longer a label tht most same-gender attracted ppl choose to use for themselves. generally, itâs a word tht homophobes use. as being open to loving ppl of your same gender may or may not have anything to do with sex, but homophobes like to use it to emphasize their feelings of âew gross gay sex.âÂ
also, your friends are rude af. you make a polite request to not be referred to as something you find offensive and they say, no! WTF?!?! thtâs some terrible friendship action rt there. if my friend wanted me to call them Mr. Bazosoeil i would do it gladly, cuz their my friend and they asked me to. tht should be enuf for them to treat you with respect.Â
youâre supposed to want to bring and receive joy with friends. not be dismissed and told your objections are worthless. thtâs just gross dove. whatâs the point of having those ppl around if they wonât actively love you? i hope you wonât let them slide on using the term to describe you. tell âem why itâs problematic and maybe find some better class of friends! good luck dove!
