Saw someone do an OC timeline on twt, and I wanted to do one with dear rat boy! Feel free to ask questions about him.

How did you come up with the idea for them?

I hope you don’t mind this whole info dump I have to share on how this freak came to be.

It all started in the summer of 2022…

My best friend as well as my boyfriend had told me to watch the Rottmnt movie on Netflix, as it had just came out. I was hesitant, as I knew nothing about the turtles other than some media I’ve seen briefly throughout the years. But I decided to give it a go.

And I loved it. However, getting into Rise as a show was a challenge. I’m not sure why I was convinced I wouldn’t get into it fandom wise. But look at me now. I haven’t LEFT!

While watching season 1, I had found a tiktok video about someone making a rottmnt sona. And I promptly sent the link to my boyfriend. This is where everything started.

The TikTok no longer exists sadly, I cannot credit who gave me the inspiration to make them.

The iconic white mask was a random idea. Yellow is my favorite color, so it would be my first choice, however I ended up settling on white since I was practically forcing my boyfriend to also make an oc along side me. We decided on the idea of black and white, ying and yang.

(He has since left the fandom and so now it’s not really that anymore. I tend to tie the white to them growing up and learning to become the ideal version of themself. A happier and new turtle compared to their past)

For species, I probably just looked up turtle species on google clicked the first link, eventually landing on one that stood out. That being, a Bog Turtle.

I was more enamored with the look of the neck markings. But the more I learned about the species, the more I loved them.

They’re the smallest turtle in North America and are critically endangered. They also live in the North east, covering New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania! I found out after Marcel was made that the Bog turtle was also my state turtle??? I did not know that state assigned turtles were a thing.

Then. There was picking a name. I wanted to go with the naming theme of an influential late artist. They were a turtle after all. I gotta stick with the iconic theme!!

At this point in time, I was studying Graphic Design in my second year of college. The spring before, I had a class called Modern Art History. Its final project was a 5 page essay about our favorite artist from one of the eras we studied.

This is where I discovered my favorite artist was a French painter and sculptor from 1900’s named Marcel Duchamp. Why do I love this artist? His career was skyrocketed because of spite.

If you have studied art history and know about the conceptual and pop art era, you have definitely heard of a sculpture called “Fountain”

Yes it’s a urinal with some guys name painted on it. Marcel Duchamp hated what art was defined as, so he went to change it. He threw shit on the floor and called it art. And while people found him annoying, I thought he was cool and hilarious as hell. This was all because his painting “Nude descending down a staircase” was rejected from an art show btw.

Plus, he had a drag persona. So I say he was kinda iconic for someone in the 1910’s.

And so, I bestowed the name of Marcel to this oc. I couldn’t draw turtles at the time, so I grabbed some screenshots from the show and created this.

It was a proof of concept. And a messy one at that. I had traced it because I never intended to post it anywhere.

I soon made an original full ref in October, creating an official design for them. (I still couldn’t draw turtles imo)

Their design was slightly changed in April of 2024. And it was kept ever since.

I desperately need to redraw their ref. But I mostly draw them the same way as they’re designed here.

Mars was quickly separated from the “sona” idea. They’re now just an Oc I project onto as a neurodivergent adult living in this era of hell. It’s probably why they quickly rose to be my favorite OC over the years. They’ve gotten me through a lot personally, and they still continue to.

This was the last time I fully drawn them in the rise style. They grow up so fast 💕💕

Dagfinn lore timeline uh probably missed a bunch of shit but yeah these are the major events and his appearances

Uh after he’s like 19 he ends up in a band til he’s in his late twenties, then falls in love with a nice Norwegian women and has 2 daughters and sort of unmetals himself, it’s all good until he’s about 40 when him and his wife divorce, they don’t have bad feelings towards eachother they just fell out of love

So then one day Dagfinn is helping his parents move back to Norway, (they stayed in Alabama to raise Eleanor and Annabelle) and he comes back to Alabama to pack their stuff with his two daughters he runs into his ex highschool sweetheart James 👀👀

Meanwhile James has been an angry loser after Dagfinn left him, he goes to the college his dad wanted him to by a football scholarship, but he tears his acl so he doesn’t even have football and ends up working random jobs after college and hating his life.He gets a fiancé for a while but that relationship also ends shortly after.

But when he recognizes a tall Norwegian in the small town he immediately tries to win Dagfinn back even both of them being 45ish, and Dagfinn is newly single…

I saw @hedwigoprah's timeline for Veryl, and even though I technically did something like this already for Saadrah back in October, as "The Life Cycle of a Dragon," I thought it might be nice to do a timeline version of it. A lot of this is very similar to that post, just with years instead of Saadrah's age, but there's some new stuff too. So thanks for the inspiration, hedwigoprah!

(I didn't do music, though, because I don't usually make up character playlists. Imagine whatever music you think most appropriate. 😁)

So I wanted to make a reference sheet for Mugman (The way I draw him lmao). I wanted to give some cup = hair treatment to him because I always thought it was weird in qftim that Mugman didnt have hair unlike Cuphead. I wanted to give him a similar look to my oc Trevor (who I heavily based off of Mugman). I also wanted an excuse to draw a beefy, strong man again.
