Hello everyone, but specifically the Dispatch OC creators!
I LOVE to talk about how much I want to see more Dispatch OC content, but I havenāt done much to actually encourage it, so here is my little contribution: a Dispatch OC Ability Template to use, formatted the same way the official wiki is, with a few extra notes within to help save you all the time I had to waste making it myself!
Obviously this is free to use and copy, and the link is down below. Only price is that I would LOVE to see what characters you guys manage to create, so please reply/reblog with your OCs!!!

Here's the template that I used for my oc intro posts feel free to use it if you like it! I wanted something more horizontal with specific information and image layouts so I made my own. Credit's not needed (just don't remove the watermark in the corner) but still feel free to tag me if you use it as I always love to see other people's ocs ^^ It's meant to have the class/subclass underneath the portrait on the left with the name and title in the top box and aesthetic images to the right but use it however you see fit. And feel free to request any specific color combos of the background, boxes, and borders if you're looking for something in particular it's an easy edit.

How to Assign an OC their Sun, Moon, and Rising Signs (+ Birthday)
This is for people like me, who know next to nothing about tarot, zodiac, astrology, etc. but still want to give your OC a birth chart (assuming you donāt already have a birthday in mind for them).
If you already have a birthday in mind, you can mess around on any birth chart website, substituting times and locations untilĀ youāve found a combination that you like! For me, I had to decide on all of this together.
And if you donāt have a birthday already or arenāt attached to one, this will help you narrow one down.
Not understanding tarot and astrology is what kept me from making my OCs bios for so long, but with some help from my friends and my own research, I was able to put this together, which allows me to find signs for my OCs fairly quickly.
The way I do this is a little bit involved but Iām gonna walk you through it using Leon as an example. (And because this will be kind of long, most of it is going under a cut)
Disclaimer: I am using Western astrology (as I am in the USA) and also I do not claim actually know anything about astrologyāif you do I apologize in advance, as this will probably drive you crazy lol! Remember, this is just for fun and supposed to be an easy way to navigate a complex topic of character design. There are certainly other ways of doing it, but this is what works for me!
First, you want to assign a patron arcana to your OC. The easiest way to do this is to read the descriptions of Asraās tarot deck on the Arcana wiki, here. Try to focus more on the upright position explanation, but if you find one that works in both upright and reversed, great! (This can be pretty broad, soĀ donāt feel discouraged if thereās not one that feels perfect for your character.)
If you already have one assigned, awesome! Go ahead and move down to the Sun sign.
Example: I liked the Upright description of the Knight of Swords for Leon. Reversed kind of works, but the Upright is more him.
Now that you have a patron arcana assigned, go to this website and scroll down until you see the list of signs with the cards they are associated with underneath. From here, just find the sign (or signs in some cases) that is associated with the card you chose.
Once youāve found it, read more about the sign. Does it seem to fit your OC pretty well (maybe give or take a few details)? Great! You have just found their Sun sign.
If it doesnāt seem to fit well, try the other sign (if the card was associated with more than one) or go back to the arcana and see if thereās one that fits your OC better
Example:Ā The Knight of Swords appears under both Taurus and Gemini, as shown here. I clicked on Taurus first and read the description. It didnāt fit Leon very well, so I tried Gemini next, and really liked that description for his character, so I have assigned him a Gemini Sun sign.
Now, you want to find their Moon sign.
This website is extremely helpful in describing how to create characters using astrology, and if you want to learn more about how these traits can define your character I would definitely recommend giving it a readābut for the purpose of this post I will be paraphrasing their descriptions of Moon and Rising signs.
According to this websiteĀ the Moon signĀ ārepresents our inner and often hidden self. The Moon sign is how your character will act under stress, what they keep hidden from themselves, and also will supply you, as a writer, with the source of the most inner conflict.ā It is associated with the phrase,Ā āWHAT I NEED.ā
Keeping this definition in mind, what you can do is go back to the list of the signs + tarot cards, and start clicking through each description (this takes the most time for sure) to get a feeling for what fits. You can also do a bit of side research, just looking up different combinations. Try Googling your Sun sign + a random Moon sign or visiting this website for a concise list of combinations. This might be easier if youāre reading the descriptions and still feel likeĀ ā???ā and it might take less time.
Example: For Jamil I was able to just read the descriptions of the signs and latch onto his Pisces Moon fairly quickly, but that wasnāt working for Leon. I visited the website linked in the last paragraph, and just started clicking on the different Gemini Sun combinationsĀ until finally, I landed onĀ āGemini Sun Aries Moonā for him.Ā
Back to the previous website: Your OCs Rising signĀ āindicates the first impression a character will give: how the character will react and approach a new environment. It is also known as āthe maskā a person puts on as an outside front.ā Its phrase isĀ āHOW I RELATE.ā
This is probably the most vague concept to grasp (for me), so I will usually default to Googling for this one. PutĀ ā__ Sun __Moonā in the search bar (filling in the blanks with your choices), and you should receive some suggestions for Rising/Ascending signs. If reading the descriptions from the first website was working for you, by all means, keep using it! This is just the point where it stops sticking in my brain, so I need some extra help.
Weāll be using this website for the birthday part, but for now, it can also be used to find a Rising sign. It allows you to search by a combination of signs for celebrity birthdays, and it also gives a brief description of what people with these signs would be like (though Google searches might be a bit more detailed).
Example: Because this is so specific, I went back and forth on a few options for Leon. The sign I settled on was Leo Rising, as the description below seemed to work best for him.
Now itās time to give your OC a Birthday! By far, the easiest way to do this is to use this website and plug in your Sun, Moon, and Rising signs (or at least just Sun and Moon). The website will give you a list of at least 2-3 celebrities who fit those signs. From there, just pick what date you like best! You can also feel free to take a date, and go to a birth chart calculator to kind of play around a little if you want a slightly different date.
I donāt know if this website has an example for every possible combination, but the ones Iāve tried so far have worked!
(There is also a way to calculate a birthday by just using the signs, but looking that up made my head start spinning so I will not even attempt to explain that.)
Example: This is what the rest of the previous screenshot looks like. I was given three celebrities, and from them, chose Mae Whitman for Leonās birthday, June 9th. This was entirely just personal preference, as any of the three dates would have worked.
And there you go! You have successfully assigned your OC their Patron Arcana, Sun, Moon, and Rising signs, and maybe even got a Birthday out of it as well!
Essentially, it boils down to what feels right for your character. Donāt worry about a combination being āaesthetically pleasingā or lean too much on the publicās stereotypes of these signs (like how all Geminis are two-faced or all Scorpios are too intense, etc.) This is just for fun! And for you to get to know your OC a little better.Ā
