This is my home for all of my OC talk and talk about the Arcana Game because I tried really hard but unfortunately I am back in the building. The majority of my OCs were created for the Arcana's sandbox, so they show up in that universe the most, but I frequently throw them into other universes and fandoms. My blog description has a link to basically everything, but here are some shortcuts:
Fic Masterlist
Worldbuilding Lore (based in the Arcana Game sandbox)
General disclaimer that this is an adult POC Queer space. Do with that what you will, but know I have negative amounts of patience for any kind of bigotry/ignorance. Additional disclaimer that though I do post about the Arcana, I do not support Nix Hydra or Dorian or any affliiated parties.
My other blogs you may see around:
@dani-fandom - my main blog, likes and follows come from here
@dani-plays-da - my Dragon Age blog
@astarionhell - my BG3 blog
I have a lot of OCs but there are just a handful that get talked about the most, so I'm going to focus on them here:
These four OCs are referred collectively as "the band" as they often exist together in any universe, Alec being the youngest and the other three being closer in age. (Alec is also my apprentice for the Arcana canon, if you were in the fandom space circa 2020-2022 my handle was @/apprenticealec.)
Alec al-Saleh | masterlist | her tag
Jamil Alfonso Parsa-D'Oria | masterlist | his tag
Camia-Marie Baudelaire | masterlist | her tag
Leon (Zhu-Jin Lian) | masterlist | their tag
These four OCs are my main pirate captains + their quartermasters. They each have their own crew, and there is another crew run by an OC Syd that I'll expand on under the cut.
Meredith Gwynsdottir | masterlist | her tag
Saoirse | masterlist | their tag
Rodrigo Luis Aguilar | masterlist | his tag
Jacqui Larrieux-Desroche | masterlist | his tag
My main villains/antagonists are another pirate captain by the name of Sydney Aloisio De Luca (his tag) and his on-and-off-again boyfriend of 60+ years Drago Fortunado D'Oria (his tag).
For some extra OCs, continue on!
Each pirate crew has a set castlist, each featured below with their own tags:
Side note that Andreya, Elizabeth, and Theodore are the only OCs listed here that were not created for the Arcana, they have their own fantasy story I've been developing for almost ten years at this point.
Some other frequently mentioned (B-list) OCs who will probably appear in any route rewrites include:
Miriam Giada Nora Diamandis | her tag | a cousin of Jamil's who works as the sommelier for the Palace in Vesuvia and is a longtime friend of Nadia and Lucio
Viviane Aurore Baudelaire | her tag | Camia's younger sister by 8 years who works as an assistant for her brother, Ignatius, one of the court members of Vesuvia
Bluebird | his tag | was Lucio's consort pre-plague but services the rest of the court as requested
Aria Zaman | her tag | the pirate Queen before Meredith, retired to Vesuvia with her wife, Eveline
Other family members, not likely to appear but still important (and this is mostly for me to remember their names LMAO):
Alec's family
Romar al-Saleh | her Apa/father
Alina Faheem | her Ama/mother
Jamil's family
Chiara Giuliana D’Oria | his mother
Rafiq Parsa II | his father
Hakim Raul Parsa-D’Oria | his younger brother by 3 years

Do you ever just make mental AMVs of the band and if so what are your top three songs for them
Hello and yes absolutely I have an actual playlist dedicated just to this where I listen to these songs and dissociate so hard just imagining the AMV I will One day either make myself or have the money to pay someone to make for me
The top three for the band specifically are:
Fire by The Struts: this is formulated like an anime opening in my brain okay we follow each of them for a while but the chorus is always them just. Running fast as fuck across idk a field (Leon is flying and Alec cycles between running and jetting off after Lee, Jamil and Camia have their horses) just overflowing with a feeling of Girl Who’s Gonna Be Okay™️
Down to the River by Ben Caplan: mostly because this is Jamil’s singing voice claim but I always see them performing this in some tavern somewhere and he’s on the guitar, Camia is playing her violin, Lee on the drums, and Alec joins in on the flute solo later on, very cozy vibes mostly for me to pretend to ogle Jamil. In my head. Which is a normal thing to do.
Then we have Devour by Shinedown: This one I found at the height of my Reversed AU thoughts but this does follow all of the members in their individual misery and showing how much each of their lives suck - Starting with Camia in the Coliseum, and then Leon in Gekko as their corrupted self, Alec fighting in underground rings in Prakra, and Jamil basically a prisoner of his mother in a political marriage but my favorite image is always Leon and Fish soaring through the sky (diving down as with the lyrics) and there is just so much Pain in this one
Honorable mention but this one is for my pirates, Weapon by Against The Current, follows Meredith and Saoirse first, then Rodrigo and Jacqui, then they come together and it ends with them preparing to fight Syd (This is the only one I’ve actually written out a script for, like shot for shot of what I’d want to happen)

how do you know if the chemistry between two characters you're writing is good? do you have specific things you look for, or is it more vibes based?.
Give me enough time and I can find something to make two characters work. It might not always be top tier chemistry but there’s always something in there. Always ways to figure out how people push each other’s buttons, where they agree, where they disagree, etc. I like to play with alternate endings and outcomes, too, and those inevitably create different types of chemistry and ways for a relationship to evolve. Sometimes I just pick a vibe and go! Sometimes a piece of canon dialogue or lore sneaks up on me. I know it’s good when I can “yes and” it. It has to find a way to grow.
hi, i love your analysis on the arcana, from things like analyzing their routes to the general wordlbuilding. id love to hear more of ur thoughts on the arcana in general, like things that should have been explored, etc.
Thank you so much anon friend!! Gosh, there's so much to unpack from the worldbuilding to the history to the different routes - they each deserve their own post! Here's an old discord server ramble of mine from a couple years ago, though, on how Vesuvia experienced the plague/bounced back in the upright endings. I never posted it because I just assumed it wouldn't be interesting next to all the MCxM6 stuff lol (essay under cut)
So, as we know, Vesuvia is heavily based off Venice, Italy, between the time of the Black Plague and the Renaissance, and it's really fun to me to analyze what we know about how social structures rebuild after a non-violent lethal disaster like an epidemic. If you've ever noticed, the cultures in different parts of Vesuvia vary drastically (much like it does in any city) depending on the neighborhood, but I really enjoy analyzing it in the context of a global port city that's just gone through mass trauma and loss and is on the brink of exploding with intellectual/cultural progress (because MC and the M6 don't exist in a vacuum).
Center city, where the shop and town square are located, actually reminds me quite a bit of how western culture responded to COVID. The red plague was the worst disaster to befall them collectively in recent memory, so their understanding of life's suffering is heavily shaped by that. They're distant. They don't talk to each other much. They make nice, but generally keep to themselves, because they're stuck in a world where being exposed to someone puts you at risk of disease. It explains a lot of why MC is so incredibly isolated at the beginning of the novel.
The south end looks very different: they're close to the flooded district and the docks, meaning that that population is already familiar with personal disaster and suffering. They've watched unhoused, orphaned kids fight each other for food, they've watched an entire neighborhood and its occupants sink under the water from neglect, etc, etc. They knew what collective suffering was like before the Plague, and they have a broader understanding of how important community is when it comes to survival. It's why characters like Julian, Mazelinka, and Portia fit in so naturally there, and why Asra's pretty comfortable in that atmosphere as well. The South End also has the most unfiltered global exposure. It's not where cultural exhibitions happen or where merchants sell their finest goods, but it's where sailors spend their nights and where travelers disembark. If Lucio had come to Vesuvia as a mercenary and not the previous Count's heir, it's where he'd be the most comfortable (and probably why we see him hanging around there in the Travel at Night tale).
When you get up in the richer part of town, it's where the unease from center city turns into fear. There's this undercurrent of anxiety and insecurity and isolation all over the rich neighborhoods and through Nadia's route, and it's not just because those are her personal emotions. That's the attitude of a group of privileged people who've had reality slap them in the face when it comes to how easily things can fall apart. The city under Lucio's reign wasn't well managed, and hundreds of citizens in the Flooded District and South End suffered greatly because of it. The bad feelings were kept at bay by Lucio's parties, but after his death and Nadia's coma, the city's been half governed by proxies who don't know what they're doing. Valerius is the only semi-useful one, but imagine all the nobles who went to meet with their government to discuss post-plague strategies and got stuck with Vulgora, Volta, Vlastomil, or Valdemar -- that would be terrifying for them!
Nadia's way more of a hero in the Arcana story than she claims credit for, in my opinion. As much as the other M6 help, she steps into a massive leadership breach and successfully pulls a global port city from the brink of an economic free fall and potential revolution and onto the cusp of a Renaissance in less than a year. That's huge!
For some quick background on Vesuvia's loose inspiration, the Italian Renaissance was majorly fueled by new/revitalized exposure to ancient Greek and Roman culture and to the ways in which foreign nations further east had preserved/developed those ideas through a thousand-plus years. It's why Renaissance art, technology, and philosophy draw heavily on old Greek and Roman work. So if we were to chart that boom onto Vesuvia -
The Vesuvian renaissance would pick up under Nadia's reign as she would work with Portia to negotiate international relations with surrounding countries, and that would rely heavily on her position in the Prakran royal family. Assuming that that's where the aid is coming from and that's the culture Nadia can most easily expose Vesuvians to, the renaissance that likely happens 5-20 years post-routes would be largely Prakran inspired. In the same way that the IRL Renaissance in Italy had lots of contemporary Italian interpretations of Greek and Roman culture, the Vesuvian renaissance could look a lot like Vesuvia's interpretation of Prakran culture. (Not only Prakran, of course, it's a major port city. It's already a melting pot and with trade resuming post-plague we'd see a lot of influence from countries like Zadith, Firent, etc)
But imagine - MC learning to speak Vesuvian, but raising kids who learn Prakran in school? A Prakran street food vendor setting up next to Selasi, selling local fish with Prakran spices (instead of the traditional swordfish)?
And, in typical renaissance fashion, this wouldn't just be a period when Vesuvia suddenly gained lots of cultural and intellectual exposure, it would be a period of developing it really, really, really fast - Muriel remembers back when sewage was managed with chamber pots. Now there's a city-wide sewage system that flushes.
For characters that don't like change (Muriel again), it means culture shock. You know how when you talk to your older generations, they talk about remembering a time when having a cell phone wasn't a common thing and the internet didn't exist? MC is already an adult when this starts. Especially if they're with someone with a lot of local influence (Nadia, Julian, Portia), they're going to be a big voice in navigating how much progress is too much progress. We're living through that right now with AI (current brainrot note, this ramble happened in January of 2024) - but -
Imagine being Nadia's advisor as she tries to decide whether continued research into the magic of psychology and how it could be applied to mind control is ethical.
Imagine being Julian's partner as medicine advances by leaps and bounds and he's tasked with administrating/mediating Vesuvian medical training. Imagine listening to him going back and forth on whether it's safe to adopt a new surgical technique yet, and what kind of tests and checks it needs to pass before it becomes standard Vesuvian practice.
Imagine being Portia's partner as Vesuvia becomes globalized and travel gets faster and more efficient, helping her figure out what needs to be preserved and what's good to let go in a rapidly shrinking world.
And Lucio - oh goodness, he's a journeyman in his upright route, and that means him having to face the partial trauma of never coming back to the same place. Every town you revisit together has changed rapidly in the six or so months since the last time you passed through, until you're at risk of feeling like the world just moved on and left you behind (which is hell on his personal trauma).
Asra ... would be fine, let's be honest. They thrive in changing and unpredictable environments and would probably be a social advocate for not trying to slow or limit progress. The downside is that he's more sentimental than most people realize, and he often doesn't realize he has a good thing until it's gone. That's the most I could see the social change affecting them personally.
And Muriel, as I mentioned, wouldn't take easily to change that big and fast very well, but he's already ideally situated to handle it. He and MC live out in the woods and have a calling to preserve the Kokhuri's past. It would still affect his social reputation - immediately post upright route, he's the hero of the city. As the city changes, however, he becomes less of a social figure and more of a cultural one. Fewer people know him or expect him to show up to stuff, but anyone who comes to Vesuvia learns about the retired hero in the woods who can be counted on if the world ever falls to pieces again.
As for Portia -- her upright ending has massive implications for Vesuvia's future, because it involves Tasya:
While Tasya is not a politician and doesn't claim to be, she's a major force in international trade and that is by default political. She needs to have governmental favor/trust to be allowed to trade in countries because of the sheer amount of wealth involved, and that can quickly make her a vital part of that country's economy.
And Tasya isn't Prakran.
If we're talking about Portia's upright ending, then you've got Portia as an acting ambassador who, yes, will rely heavily on Nadia's ties to Prakra (strengthened by Natiqa joining her on her first voyage). But Portia's going to be focused on reaching out to previously less connected countries. Tasya meanwhile is pouring literal boatloads of aid into Vesuvia, as she helps rebuild it after the disaster she caused, which means that large sources of Vesuvian income, cultural exposure, available groceries/resources, etc, are all going to be coming from her trading fleet -
Which is Southern by nature (like Nevivon) and not Northern (like Prakra).
You'd also see a tricky economic transition further down the line, because hundreds of Vesuvians are going to be employed in Tasya's project to rebuild the city, and become dependent on the paychecks/jobs that that provides as a result. Altogether, Portia's ending suggests a Vesuvian cultural renaissance that heavily features two influences instead of one, and an economic boost that follows post-war aid trends on top of post-plague trade trends.

Maybe a slightly cursed definitely rushed post but Valdemar occupies a space close to Sebastian from Black Butler in my brain which is why a lot of ships with them don't make sense to me
AND WHAT I MEAN BY THIS has to do with how they see humans okay stay with me
Valdemar is aroace yes okay the argument that aroace people still fuck is a topic for another day what I'M focusing on is that something that OC ships with them never quite get is that Valdemar sees humans closer to food sources than anything else
Like the way that the obsession of Sebastian with Ciel comes off kind of... y'know... but the true meaning behind that is he is protecting his 100lb wagyu steak or extremely rare vintage wine whatever your food metaphor
And yes as far as we know Valdemar isn't literally eating humans (one has to wonder what happened at the end of all their dissections during the plague), but humans create chaos, humans die, Valdemar craves death and pain and torture (enough to literally help the apprentice stop Tasya in Portia's route because they have no interest in a world without death) - Valdemar views humans as a means to satisfy their cravings, so as we would food
Which means that the way they are going to view a human is never going to be romantic even in the QPR sense okay so when I see OC ships with them that skew Valdemar as a being capable of reciprocating human love and affection it feels ingenuine to their character as a whole
It's like... you're missing all the flavor that would make a ship interesting. Where's the SAUCE where's the MSG of unrequited tortured love from the OC's side? The OC constantly putting themselves into this incredibly unhealthy and toxic situationship where their own death would potentially be MORE valuable to Valdemar than anything else
Okay come on you're gonna tell me that it's NOT an infinitely more devastating and interesting concept to have a character be in love with something that only sees them as food?? You want angst, that's practically baked into the foundation of the ship babes I don't understand why no one else wants to explore this
Fuck it maybe I will LMAO FreakOCtober here I come
SO - I know im late, you can throw tomatoes at me , i deserve it
As to why im late its cus I was randomly looking through the wiki and found out when Nadias bday is like 2 hour before it and im slow with drawing lol😭

Hey so if I start writing fic with Rodrigo and throwing Spanish in there y’all aren’t gonna make fun of me or think that I’m being a weird white bitch about it right 😭🥺 I wanna learn and I used him to explore me being separated from my own culture before so this is just a natural next step right yes okay
