A/N: Thought I'd try writing some John B imagines, enjoy!
Summary: You and John B knew one another as a fellow Pogue. You had separate friend groups, occasionally bumping into one another at school, around the island, or just surfing around. You've always liked John B, maybe even more as a friend. What if John B felt the same? **wink, wink**
Notes:
Y/N/N: Your nickname
You work at a shaved ice parlor
Farah -> your older sister
Warnings: none
John B Routledge x-reader
The morning breeze slipped through the opening of the parlor's front door. I pulled my hair away from my face, letting it fall against the back of my neck. I smiled and opened up the double doors as my eyes caught sight of the deep waters that hit the dock ahead of the parlor. I hadn't had many people come into the parlor today, which surprised me a bit.
A few Kooks had come in, demanding for a discount since they 'knew the owner' which obviously was a lie. I pulled up the blinds on the double doors, looping the piece of rope on the side hook.
Music played from my speaker as it sat on the counter. A smile crept onto my lips while the summer sweet melody bounced off the walls of the small shaved ice parlor. I grabbed the broom from the closet to pass the time. My head bobbed up and down as I swept the porch of the parlor. I hummed to the tune, grinning from ear to ear.
Luckily, I was able to do my own thing given that I was the only one working today. I've always loved being the only one working due to the parlor right in front of the large water, allowing me to take breaks every so often; stick my feet in the water and wave to people as they passed on their boats.
White clouds glide across the blue sky while covering the sun every so often. I tucked a strand of hair behind my ear and leaned the broom against the outside wall.
I took out the cleaning solution and cloth from my apron, beginning to wipe down the outside tables free of pollen and anything else that might've settled on the glass tables.
My cleaning session was interrupted by a car pulling up to the lot. "Yo! Y/N!" a voice exclaimed, gaining my attention. With curiosity, I looked up to find John B and his friends hopping out of the van.
I shot them a welcoming smile and made my way over to the counter. The bell above the door chimed when John B walked into the front door. "Hey!" I greeted, "What can I get ya'll?" After about three minutes, I got all of their orders on my notepad. John B looked around the shop, noticing that I was the only one working.
"Need help?" he asked.
I stopped putting the ice into the little cup, looking up at my friend. "Uh, yeah. That'd be great," I said. A large smile appeared on his face from my response (GIF Above). With the help of John B, I was able to get all of their orders ready. The two of us walked over to the table outside. Kiara and Pope shot me a smile as I set their shaved ice down.
"Hey, Y/N/N," John B said, "Why don't you sit with us."
The others agreed with a nod of their heads or ushering towards the extra seat. "C'mon, you haven't had any people come in awhile. Plus, it'll be nice for you to take a break," Kiara said. I sighed, nodding my head. "Just give me a second," I said. The four of them nodded in response.
I walked over to the counter and made myself some shaved ice. I closed the lid to the syrup before making my way over to John B and his friends. It didn't take long for a laugh to escape my lips when John B and his group began making jokes about the Kooks; making fun of their clothes, attitudes, or how some of them probably don't know how to do their own laundry.
About an two hours later, the sun was beginning to set just above the ocean ahead of the shaved ice parlor. I stood behind the counter as I wiped it down before I left for the evening. John B closed the double doors and unhooked the rope to the blinds.
"My friends and I are hosting a kegger tonight down at the boneyard. If you want to stop by," John B said, "I'm sure Kiara wouldn't mind someone to talk to about saving the environment."
I chuckled, undoing the knot from my apron and folding it up; setting it on the shelf behind me. John B watched me as I grabbed my purse from the hook. The two of us walked down the front steps.
I turned around and locked the door before following John B. I walked over to my bike, picking up the helmet from the ground. "I'll be there," I said, earning another wide grin from John B.
______
(Time Skip: two hours later)
Farah sat on the edge of my bed, flipping through a magazine. She took a red pen and wrote some notes beside a picture of a floral dress, one that neither of us could afford. My older sister followed me with her eyes as I sat in front of my mirror, fiddling with my hair to find the best hairstyle.
"God, why are so worried about what you look like?" my sister complained, "You're just gonna get wasted and look like shit at the end."
I rolled my eyes and decided to put my hair up in a ponytail, adding a white scrunchie to top it off. "This is about a boy, isn't it?" Farah asked. I chuckled and slipped on my white sneakers before putting on a brown belt, putting it through the loops on the side. "So it is about a boy," my sister said, breaking the pause that had settled.
"Fine," I sighed, "It is about a boy, Farah."
She cheered, throwing her hands up in the air. I laughed and tied a black cardigan around my waist. "I'm gonna give you some advice," Farah said and stood up from the bed, "Don't get too wasted, alright? You'll regret what happens."
She set her hands on my shoulders as she spoke. Farah kissed me on the forehead and motioned me to finish up. "I'll drive you," Farah said. "Wha-I can drive on my own," I said. "I know that, but It'll give this crush of yours to take you home," she said, winking.
I rolled my eyes and followed her to the front door. We said goodbye to my mother before making our way to the boneyard. It didn't take long for us to arrive at the boneyard.
The sandy beach was filled with a mixture of Kooks and Pogues. Teenagers were dancing with red solo cups in hand. "Damn, these friends of yours really know how to throw a party," Farah said, "Can I come?"
"No," I said, opening the door to the car. She laughed and waved me goodbye before pulling away. I shook my head in amusement and walked over to the beach. "Y/N!" Kiara cheered with her arms on either side of her. I whipped my head to the sound of my friend's voice, a smile breaking loose on both our faces.
"So glad you could make it," she said and threw an arm around my shoulder. Kiara led me over to the keg that sat in the middle of the boneyard. Teenagers continued to dance to the music that had been playing from someone's speaker.
"The boys are over here. John B's going to be happy you're here," Kiara said. She led me over to two logs where a fire had been started in the middle of it. John B perked up at the sight of me, immediately grinning at the sight of me.
"You made it!" John B said. "Wouldn't miss it," I replied. Kiara took her arm off my shoulders and sat between JJ and Pope.
John B and I sat side by side, across from the other three. The group continued to talk, laughter erupting from either one of them. This was nice. I felt welcome, something that I hadn't felt for awhile.
I hadn't really had a tight group of friends like these guys did. "I'm glad you came," John B said, taking me away from my thoughts. He took a sip of his drink before turning around to set the cup beside him.
John B stood up from the log and extended a hand, standing in front of me. I furrowed my brows and brought the cup to my lips. "Dance with me, Y/N/N," John B said, "C'mon, let's see if your pretty self can dance." I laughed and set my hand into his. Without hesitation, John B brought me over to the middle of the sandy beach.
He extended an arm and twirled me around, causing me to bump into his chest. I laughed and looked up at him with a smile on my face. John B tucked a strand of hair behind my ear with a similar smile from earlier. "I know this is a crazy question," John B said. "JB, nothing you say could be crazy," I replied, earning another chuckle.
"Would you got on a date with me?"
"Of course, John B," I responded, lightly kissing him on the cheek.
