Nostalgia? - October 2020 / December 2011 This is a composite of six images of the back entrance to Oak Mountain State Park near Birmingham, Alabama. Three of the images were taken this year, and three were taken in 2011. I think the first time that we stayed at Oak Mountain was in 2005 but it might have been earlier. 2005 was the oldest images I could find in a simple search. In those days we were camping in a twelve foot fiberglass Burro trailer. I have images from various places in the park from many stays here. One of the changes in the park was the “improvement” of the back entrance. I think it was in 2014 that the dam was raised and the Low Water Bridge was eliminated. Apparently too many people were afraid to cross the water, even when it was only a few inches deep. In 2011, I took my RV across the Low Water Bridge with almost eleven to fourteen inches of water on the roadway. I first walked all the way across to make sure there were no problems with the road and that there were no currents that might push me into the lake. Yes it is an improvement... a significant improvement, but the old lake with the highway slightly under water and passable only at low water was much more pleasant and made much better images. MWM
