#Repost @beeldunie with @repostapp ・・・ Nyaope addict Mpho Boshielo Soweto, South Africa 2014 photo by @franktrimbos. Nyaope is a street drug that is commonly used by young people in the South African townships. It is popular because it is inexpensive, extremely addictive, easy to get to and also leads to a quick high. Nyaope is, like any hard drug, illegal. However, it is sold on practically every street corner in the South African townships. The drug is extremely dangerous; not only because it is highly addictive, but also by the composition of the drug, which among other things consists of rat poison and HIV inhibitors. These ingredients make the drug cheap, but also hazardous to health and safety. It gives users a paralysing feeling and because it is so addictive, dealers and users go to extremes. The number of robberies in HIV/AIDS clinics in Soweto has increased dramatically by drug gangs who want to get HIV inhibitors in order to continue to meet the demand. That makes everyday life in the townships and for the people who need HIV drugs not to get sick even more dangereuses.
