Reviewing Girly Flash Games | Day Three: The Hey Girls Muffin Maker
Perhaps I'm breaking a rule here for playing a game I just happened to stumble across during this project instead of one I find personally nostalgic, but even if Holly Hobbie was just something I happened to gleam from my pink rearview mirror, it's still undeniably a DVD special I've stumbled across once or twice.
Never quite reaching the heights of Barbie and Bratz, Holly Hobbie has very few games archived on NuMuki. Maybe you played Lemonade Stand, maybe you preferred Pack a Picnic, but today's topic is the multi management, precision, and speed game The Hey Girls: Muffin Maker.
You simultaneously play as Holly, Amy, and Carrie helping Holly's aunt prepare some muffins for her café by giving some prebaked but undeniably plain muffins some much needed fixings.
Holly controls the frosting, Amy does the sprinkles, and Carrie is in charge of the fruit. From the three selections available in front of each girl, you must click them in time when the muffin reaches there section of the conveyor belt. The goal is to try to make sure each and every muffin gets their frosting, sprinkles, and fruit topping perfectly spread across the top and avoid as many "Franken-muffin" messes as possible.
That being said, there is no real failing Muffin Maker. As mildly disappointed as the girls might be at your lack of good reflexes, the muffins still get served and the girls still happily offer you a printable muffin recipe towards the end of each level.
I do have to start by giving some kudos to the visuals here. Though the animation is limited and a bit janky at times, the models for The Hey Girls themselves are richly colored, cute, and lively.
Though Holly Hobbie was never my personal wheel house (i.e. I wasn't quite a horse girl but undeniably a unicorn girl) its sweet and soft cottagecore visuals with its barn houses and polka prints all threaded together with thick blue jean stitching's gives the Holly Hobbie franchise an unmistakable aesthetic charm. It resides far more closely with Rainbow Brite and Strawberry Shortcake brand of dolls with their soft, stumpy limbs and rosy cheeks seeing as how this interpretation of Holly Hobbie is the newer, much more modernized version.
Made them using a manga character creator.
