I did, thank you for asking!! I was pretty nervous going into it, the nerves died down as I started explaining Ferelden and The Blight for some background but then when it came to actually starting the story all the nerves came rushing back because it was unfamiliar saying these things out loud instead of just writing ‘em down.

I have two favorite things, can’t pick between the two!! One - I’m just beyond happy that my parents both tried to play, and then enjoyed it. I’ve been trying to explain to them for months why I’ve fallen in love with Critical Role and then D&D itself, but it’s never gotten through to them until that night. My mom said she got it about 15 minutes in, for my dad he said he didn’t understand until about halfway through when he focused in on the game and began to really have fun. (This may be because in an encounter of 6 enemies, he killed 5 of them.) I don’t have the words right now to explain how happy it made me to see my mom get into character with her limited knowledge of the world/characters.

Second thing I enjoyed the most was that everyone told me they felt like they were brought into the world and loved it. In the beginning they felt like they were in the courtyard I described, and later on down the road when an NPC proposed they ransom an Arl’s children for money, they all without hesitation said yes because the hatred they felt for that character had been built up so well they couldn’t help getting worked up when they talked about him. My fear going into my first session was I wouldn’t be able to get character impressions rubbed off onto my players, especially for a male one - but they assured me I did, and did it well enough to have them feel real anger toward him haha.

There is a comic book out there where Rocket DMs a D&D campaign for the avengers and the guardians. So Marvel is aware, I think?

The rogue in my party gave me: "my character owns an envelope with secrets anf is being hunted for them, but she has complete amnesia, so it's up to you what's in the envelope and why she's being hunted." So of course, the envelope is a devils contract that uses her soul as collateral, and gives her 7 quests to get her soul back, for the payment of 7 other souls. She's being hunted by someone who wants to prevent her from getting her soul back, and ending the contract.

that being said

my character Wend’lgaard is a half-elven druid, and in my DM’s world the elven tribes that i’m from are particularly brutal, full of druids and shapeshifters and hate humans, so my backstory includes getting my heritage revealed, getting my arm torn off in the escape from the clan, my mother murdered and almost dying from shock. but when i wrote the backstory and the escape from my people i wrote it very open AND i had no idea i was half elf and that my dad was human. i told the DM he could decide who my dad was

it’s game two and i’m already having PTSD fueled nightmares, and one of the images the DM described was a pair of eyes, now i know all the important characters and there descriptions from my own pack and it didn’t match any of them and when i questioned him out of game about it he said

“you specifically said you don’t fully remember your escape, so i’m taking advantage of that”

basically. i played myself. i got someone coming after me and i don’t know who they are and i also have a dad in play somewhere in the world

note to others: if you want to create a trauma-filled backstory for your one-armed druid, beware. your DM could oblige with flying colors

Hmmm, campaign one I’m going to have to go with Kima. I loved her the moment they rescued her. I guess I just really identified with her on a more personal level than the other NPCs. She has a quick wit that I adore and go get them attitude I admire. Gilmore is a VERY close second.

As for the second campaign, we haven’t met many NPCs yet but I am really loving Bryce right now. They are absolutely wonderful. They are trying to rebuild their town and deal with idiot politics at the same time so I feel like that makes them easy to sympathize with too. Also, as a person who identifies as a nonbinary I am just so happy they exist. It makes my heart very happy.

The name is (apparently) pronounced Ford, but it has nothing to do with accent, and everything to do with Travis’ artistic choices.

I am just gonna keep calling him Fjord in my head cus silent letters what?
