Look for the enemy in all others and create an enemy where there wasn't one.
I understand how Trump was voted in. I can see how he won.
I don't agree with it, but I do understand why. The feeling of 'I'm the bad guy already so fuck it" is so strong today.
We should be respecting all people, and judging them by their character, actions and who they are individually, which is how I was raised. I was raised in a world where I should never judge someone because of the colour of their skin or race.
Yet, people are constantly looking at 'white people' and making us the bad guys as a group. No white people are not oppressed, I'm not trying to say that white people have it worse off or bad or etc especially compared to any other race. I am just pointing out that I was raised to NEVER judge someone by their race, yet I'm CONSTANTLY the bad guy because of my race. I should be proud of who I am because of what I've accomplished in life and for what I do with my life, but instead I'm silent. Because when I speak up about anything I am wrong. Because if I agree with the 'oppressed' party I'm looking for attention, because if I disagree, or even just want to point out facts to have a better discussion I'm 'racist'.
I shouldn't feel ashamed and guilty for being a white person. I should just be happy for being Amanda. Attacking me anytime I speak or want to join a conversation because I'm white and 'If you're white you can't speak on representation or oppression" is not a way to keep your allies.
When helping support gay rights I wasn't pushed out for being in a heterosexual relationship, I was welcomed for being an ally and trying to help in any way I could, but if I want to help or understand something when the 'race card' is being used I'm just automatically the bad guy, even if originally it was obvious I was an ally or trying to understand.
So I don't want to fight, I AM NOT EVER SAYING that white people have it worse, I'm not trying to imply that my life sucks because I am white... but instead of making the 'white person' the enemy... Let's just judge people by their actions and character for everyone! Just being rude and dismissive and calling any white person that speaks up a racist or worse is how you turn allies into enemies.
We are all just people. Let's try and respect each other and start listening and talking about the hard things instead of just shutting everyone up.
(This was written in a calm and sad voice, I'm not angry, I'm not ranting, I'm just talking.)
