This Mandragora officinarum (common mandrake, devil's apple, devil's candle) plant was grown from seed and has a deep fleshy tap root. The perennial produces a rosette of dark green leaves which are flat on the ground and hiding the fruit which are the size of a large hen’s egg. This plant is part of the nightshade family and contains alkaloids that make it poisonous, so handle with care.
