(I'm only listening to the one song but WHAT A SONG IT IS. I woke up with it already stuck in my head that's how I know it's Dangerous.
The thing is I listened to them like a year or two ago and said "This shit sucks. Hard pass." But then they won me back with an ~infectious groove~ and that's exactly what happened with Ghost. They're even Swedish.)
In 2008 I was listening to some local Rock/Metal/Alternative Radio station late at night and they were playing In Flames' Alias to promote their new album (A Sense of Purpose). I didn't love it immediately, it felt a bit too harsh, too much, too...foreign?
My parents have always been huge (classic) Metal and (Hard) Rock fans - ACDC, Metallica, Uriah Heep and co. were constant parts of their soundtrack, but that kind of metal was new to me.
But I kept thinking about Alias for weeks. The clean chorus, the riffs, the groove behind the harshness? I checked it out again and then it clicked. For a while I only listened to In Flames' more accessible songs, but it didn't take long to get used to their earlier Melodeath titles, too.
They opened a whole new world of music to me, a gateway drug to heavy music (which is funny, because they did and still do get so much hate for being "sellouts" and "ruining Metal" and shit, when metalheads should appreciate how they are a very nice first band to get into death metal and similar heavy subgenres; it's rather similar to Ghost bringing people into Metal, too) and remain to this day my second fave band.
Now I know that some Ghost fans already are metalheads, but many, many are coming from other genres and this is their first time in metal spheres.
I was thinking about doing some little recommendations for modern Metal Bands/ Songs that I enjoy and think may be enjoyable to you guys - as seasoned metalheads or new fans - too; would that be a thing anyone would be interested in?
Also: feel free to send me YOUR recommendations, I love discovering new cool music that's been flying under the radar!
