"You're not losing me, you're not losing me," Akira said, trying to keep his voice as soothing as possible even as his mind whirled in confusion. They had been having a normal conversation only moments before, talking about plots and plans like they always did, when suddenly Hifumi's voice hitched and she started crying.
He tried to think back on what he said that might have set her off, even as guttural sobs emerged from her throat, shoulders shaking uncontrollably. She'd always been so calm and collected, calculated in everything she said and did, but of course it made sense that someone couldn't be like that all of the time, especially not after everything Hifumi had been through. Of course it made sense that she needed to cry.
And he wrapped his arms around her, making mostly reassuring though meaningless sounds, trying to support her through the crying.
