Ilya as the first Rose x Svetlana shipper (this is long but bear with me):
Okay, but in the show, we have Ilya "the Terminator" Rozanov scanning the crowd for Rose and Shane the moment he sees Miles.
In the book, the moment he gets fully in the club, there's this natural spotlight over Rose. He can't help but notice her on the dance floor and neither can anyone else.
That's what scares him the most, I think, about Rose. He's not scared of lesser people in Shane's life - he knows Shane will only pick the most advantageous partner possible, and that those possibilities are RARE, evidenced by his dating history.
What he's instantly terrified of is that Rose is actually good enough for Shane, worth holding the spotlight that Ilya sees over Shane too. He was worried when he saw her in the newsfeeds but he was quaking in his fucking boots when he saw her in person for the first time.
At this point, Ilya still sees himself as not good enough for Shane outside of hockey, certainly not in the potentially marriage-level worthy way that he sees Rose as Shane's equal.
There must have been at least a few dating tabloid articles about Shane over the years, and you bet Ilya was regularly googling who Shane might be dating, but Rose was the only one that really made him jealous.
I also think this might be a GREAT reason for why Rose might be the only person he approves of as a life partner for Svetlana. He put Svetlana up on a super high pedestal as far as his respect and love for her, even when they don't talk for a while. He trusts her implicitly, something that takes years for him to develop.
I bet that Ilya sees Rose and Svetlana in a room together for the first time and becomes their first shipper.
Who better to be together than the woman he loves more than any other (alive) women, and the only woman he ever feared was good enough to snag the love of his life out from under him?
