#1 Reason Sleep Training Will Never Be In Line With Responsive Parenting⊠Regardless of sleep training method⊠whenever we see the child as the one who needs to change, we are not being child-led. This is at the core of our ethos. If you continue to see your child as the one who needs to change, than you will not have a child-centred view. This parenting approach is not just a list of tips and tricks. It requires a shift in perspective. Without that shift, responsive parenting will always seem like itâs ânot workingâ because our perception of what âworkingâ is may be different. The biggest misconception of sleep training is that it is the ONLY way to get more sleep and that is just simply not true. There are lots of responsive methods. We just donât hear about them as often. Why? Because sleep training is supported by formula companies. It is known that sleep training works against breastfeeding needs and can negatively impact breastfeeding. Since formula companies are not allowed to market their formula anymore, they pour money into âsleep training researchâ and use this research to promote sleep training through websites such as Baby Centre. As a result of all this money being poured into the practice because itâs good for business and capitalism, resources supporting sleep training are drastically more accessible because formula companies have a lot more money than someone like me would have for marketing. Because my goal is to support you, not tell you all the things youâre doing wrong, my marketing strategy is less than effective lol. The gold standard for marketing is the fear-based marketing used by the sleep training industry.
