I am so done with the “asking for it” mindset! Are you?
So, recently, Miley Cyrus was with her husband. She was grabbed by the neck by a fan so he could kiss her cheek. Online, many fans tweeted back. Many, took the guy’s side. One even said “you wanted to be sexy, what did you expect?”
I’m DONE! Miley said it nicely herself, but here’s my version of it:
Men (see bottom of post), women, queer, trans, gay, lesbian, bi, asexual, non-binary, famous, ordinary, rich, poor, married, single, sober, drunk, high, low, conscious, unconscious, totally naked, or head-to-toe in winter gear, WHATEVER!
No. Human. Being. Deserves. To. Be. Touched, Grabbed, Kissed, etc. WITHOUT THEIR CONSENT!!!
They can be dressing sexy, or in a blanket burrito, it DOES NOT MATTER! No one EVER asks to be grabbed or not based on what they wear! If anything, what you wear says you’re asking for a conversation, and even then, not always, but NEVER do one’s clothes mean “come on over and do literally anything you want to me”!!!! That’s NOT how this shit works!
Clothes are art, not an invitation to someone with no self control to do whatever they like
I put “men” in bold because, yes, it can happen to them too, but, a lot of this happens to women. Not to say it happens to no one else, but because it’s the one we hear the most. Sadly, this is because women took so long to finally say that they wouldn’t stand for it anymore. Now, some parents still teach their kids to view women like pieces of meat, and it’s why this is still an issue.
My advice, women need to continue to say they do not deserve it, and, if you aren’t a woman, don’t wait to stand up when this happens to you, because someone will have time to teach it to a child, and it won’t ever end unless you start right now!
The touch of another human being is a priveledge to earn and give, not some God-given right!
