A/N: Guess who had an idea and had to write it down? (My writing slaves that's who). (This thing is also on AO3Â and FanFiction.net!).Â
Apollo got himself drunk (Or, as he calls it, âa little tipsyâ). Dionysus decides its time for him to take a break and they end up talking.Â
Non-shippy, but it is about love. Trigger warnings: Mentions of alcohol and drunkenness. Â
Much too lovely a night for commitment
Apollo let out a joyous, drunken laugh. âThat I just had the chance to meet a lady like you tonight!â He looked at the lovely woman in front of him, who hid her blush behind her hand.Â
âYouâre too kind.â
âNever to someone like you!âÂ
She giggled. âAre you sure you didnât drink a little too much?â
âPerhaps, but what would it matter?â He slightly tilted his head.Â
âMaybe you should take a second look at me in a minute or soâŚâ she carefully adjusted her necklace. âSo I know that you are sure about it.â
Apollo winked. âIâll be back in a moment. I hope it doesnât feel like forever.âÂ
He turned around and strudded away, a little unsteady on his feet.Â
As soon as Apollo was out of his sweetheartsâ line of view, he felt someone tug on his arm. âHey, whoâŚâ
âCome, Apollo,â he heard a firm voice say.Â
âWhat are youâŚâ He looked aside, to his brother Dionysus, who was giving him a sly smile.Â
âYou need some fresh air. Youâre drunk.â
âNo way, only a little tipsyâŚâ
âCome.â Without further complaining, Apollo followed him out of the ballroom, into the garden, from which one could see the river. In his hazy state, Apollo couldnât remember what river it was again. In which country were they even? Italy? Egypt? America?Â
âWhy donât you take a look at the Rhine and maybe youâll calm down.â The Rhine! Then this must be⌠uh⌠âI know what you are thinking. It doesnât really matter where we are.â
âNo?â
âNo. That's for when youâve sobered up a little.â
âAh.â
They both got quiet. After a few minutes, Apollo felt his brain getting clearer. âWeâre in Germany.â
âYes.â
âCool.â He sighed, still more than a little tipsy. âWhy did you think I needed some fresh air?â
Dionysus rolled his eyes, which Apollo did not notice. âI just saw you talk to that girl⌠Marlene? I am not sure. Before that, you were talking to two other girls, and even before that to some guy. I thought Iâd come knock some sense into your head.âÂ
âI am very sensible.â
âUh-huh.â
âI love them all! Every single one! Genuinely!â
âYes, Apollo, you do, thatâs the problem.â
âWhy is it a problem? I just like⌠all of them. Everyone. I have enough time and love for all too.â
âI know, âPollo. I think, when youâre more clear-minded, youâll realise why some others donât see it that way.â
Apollo stayed quiet for a few seconds. âHmmm.âÂ
âWhat is it?â
âI just canât choose. Theyâre all so amazing.â
âAll of them, now?â
âAll of them. And I cannot choose.â He swayed around a little and sighed. âTell me how you chose, Dio.â
âHuh?â Dionysus looked at him. âWhat?â
âHow did you manage to choose? You must have known a lot of great guys and gals too, yet, you managed to pick one of themâŚâ
âChoose Ariadne as my wife, you mean?â
âYes.â
âWell, I⌠I just think sheâs the best. Maybe not the most beautiful, the kindest or the smartest of all women ever, but certainly the best. And of course she is beautiful and kind and smart, too...âÂ
âHow did you know that she was the best? I mean, it has been close to three thousand years since you got marriedâŚâ
âFour-thousand,â Dionysus muttered, âClose to four-thousand.â
Apollo slowly nodded. âInsane, dude. That is long. How did you⌠know she was the one when there was so much time ahead of you?â
Dionysus shrugged. âI just did. How did you know you loved those four pretty things just now?â
âI just felt it!â
âWell, then.â
âBut that is different! That is short love. You picked someone for the rest of your lifeeee.â
âI knew, Apollo.â
âAh. You sure?â
âYes,â he answered, through gritted teeth.Â
Apollo didnât catch the annoyed tone. âHavenât you ever regretted it? Even for just a moment?â
Dionysus lifted his hand with the intention of slapping his brother across the face. When he saw Apolloâs drowsy look, his anger ebbed away. Maybe Apollo was clearer now than he had been ten minutes ago, but he was still drunk. Dionysusâ gaze trailed off.Â
âEh⌠sorry if IâŚâ
âSh. I am thinking of an answer.â
Apollo nodded and looked back at the Rhine. The steady stream made him feel calmer.Â
âApollo?â
âHmmm?â
âI have never regretted it, not even once. Of course there are arguments and fights and ups and downs, but I donât regret getting married to Ariadne and making her immortal. ThatâŚâ he took a deep breath. âThat does not mean that it was wise to get married when we were so young. I donât think either of us realised how long forever really is, or what immortality really meant.â
âAfter she died, it took you a few years to get her back from the Underworld...â
âI felt like it was expected of the gods to forget their mortal loves.â
âAnd you did-not.â
âNo. Even after two years, I didnât. I went to get her back. And I would do it again. Still, it was naĂŻve. It turned out beautifully, but it was extremely naĂŻve.â
Dionysus slowly spun around the ring on his finger, suddenly very aware that it was there. âYet, you, you are almost five-thousand-years old. You are not that naĂŻve anymore. You could go and choose someone.â
âBut I wouldnât know who! Maybe, if I could marry all of the nine muses, then Iâd do it, but I ca-hant!âÂ
âJust do it! I couldnât marry a mortal princess either!â
âNo-hoâŚâ Apollo breathed deeply and sunk down onto the ground. He looked up at the stars and sighed. âItâs a lovely night, DionysusâŚâ
Dionysus looked up, at the stars. âIt is. Shame I am spending it with my drunk brother.â Â
âNo, you donât mind,â Apollo muttered.
âHm.â
âI am a little tiredâŚâ
âDid you promise those girls and guys anything?â
âI⌠nothing I canât do tomorrow?â
Dionysus sighed, but it ended in a chuckle. âLetâs get you home, then. Iâll bring you to your wives.â
âWhat?â
âNothing.â Dionysus helped Apollo up again.Â
âYou should tell Ariadne you love her,â Apollo muttered.Â
Dionysus raised his eyebrows. âI do, âPollo.â
âDo it again.â
âI will,â Dionysus quietly agreed, before teleporting both of them back to Olympus.
A/N: I kinda stole the âall the nine musesâ from @bfire92...Go read her fic, she wrote three gods and a new apartment, it's good (That being said, I dĂd ask permission to use it and it isnât that big in the fic).
