An alternate meeting for our boys

Flood hit Chicago hard. River rose fast. Like always, Mickey cleans up his family’s mess.

Except when the Milkovich basement floods, it’s not knickknacks littering the lawn. It’s bags of coke. Shotguns. Grenades.

Mickey’s fucking embarrassed when a ragtag group of neighbors march up offering to help.  

“Get the fuck out.” He tenses his fist.

They nod and walk by. Except one.

A tall redhead puts a syringe into the trash without a word. No pity. No snark. He settles in like he’s gonna stay. Help. The right kind of help.

Mickey lets out a stuttered breath and keeps working.
