Newport-Mesa USD has four comprehensive high schools. Two have AP Computer Science. To support of the district's STEM efforts, the other two schools may like to start programs, but each of them need a qualified teacher. The TEALS program, initially launched by Microsoft, offers a quick start to launch. Both schools can have programs ready for the 2014-2015 school years.

TEALS is a two year program with third year support:

A current teacher at school accepts a first period assignment.

School and TEALS recruit four software volunteers.

Each software volunteer works two days per week.

Volunteers must leave school by 9:15 AM.

Block schedule can be accommodated.

Each school/district pays a $5,000 stipend.

After two years classroom teacher has "certification."

The School offers one or two courses at its discretion:

AP Computer Science (based on a UofW course).

Intro to Computers (a-g, based on a UC Berkeley course).

AP has an Algebra 2 pre-req, Intro has a Geometry pre-req.

AP Computer Science isn't difficult, but requires time.
