anyway nmj is just such a character bc he Isnt one. he has no Personhood every single evidence of him as a guy that we get INCLUDING HIS OWN MEMORIES!!! is tainted we straight up dont know who he is. which is fucking incredible because hes the driving force of the plot. him dying him being murdered him doing the things he did and being the person he was (nhs' da-ge) are the whole reason there is even a story to be told. without him wwx would have simply died and not come back ever. he is THEE. CATALYST. and hes nothing. any part of him that exists is shrouded entirely and i dont even think nie huaisang understands that. what parts of nie mingjue were Nie Mingjue and what parts were the curse? we will never know

I’ve said it before but it remains beautiful how unwilling Jin Guangyao and Nie Mingjue both are when Jin Guangyao first calls Mingjue ‘Da-ge’ in the show. Jin Guangyao looks like he was forced to eat sand with glass splinters in it as he says it. Nie Mingjue looks like he is being forced to walk through fire. And they do it anyway because the most beautiful man on earth said they should :)
