okay im busy as shit irl so it'll take me a minute to get to the requests HAVE FAITH!!! I did not forget about you!! but its 4am and I cant sleep so here's some very casual thoughts and headcanons on Sonic characters ˖᯽ ݁˖·

TO PREFACE!! i dont care if you are one to indulge in some ooc character x reader like go crazy!! no shame in enjoying headcanons or a fic where a character is 100% locked onto you and is a competent partner at all times like thats the dream lol. these are just some personal musings and preferences of mine

I personally am not a big fan when all the guys are written to be like these perfect devoted lovers whose only thoughts are about you and they know just what to do and say to readers who are depressed/anxious etc. these freaks are the most unstable mfs you will meet bro.

shadow and sonic and silver and knuckles and everyone all have way bigger things to be worrying about than whether you got your latte today. I truly dont believe they'd be so doting or waiting on you hand and foot. does that mean they care for you any less? no!

bro. the yearning. silver being god knows how many years in the future wondering where your grave ended up. knuckles fighting an internal battle with himself bc his literal sole purpose in life for years has been to guard the master emerald and hes literally debating leaving his post just to see you. like thats insane. I enjoy that a lot more than "domestic" stuff

silver also i definitely see just in general getting boiled down to a twinky lovable nerd/goofball (beating a dead horse here ik) when like... his introduction is him trying to murder sonic. hes lighthearted sure but his mind goes to DARK places and hes undoubtedly done a lot to survive when he was still in his bad future. hes done some whack stuff to keep his future safe. what would he do to keep you? where do you rank on a list like that? drama, drama...

you also cannot convince me a relationship with shadow would be healthy im sorry. I love that freak so dearly but. Come on. he has no idea what to do in a relationship. you think mr. still-not-over-maria, mr born-in-a-test-tube-50-years-ago has any idea how to comfort you in a crisis? no! he doesnt even know how to comfort himself! but doesnt that make it so much more interesting? hes absolutely enamored by you but has no idea what to do about it and is freaked out from even feeling this way in the first place.

taking a step back, it's like how i talked about in my shy reader x sonic post- it is fucking insane that the ULTIMATE LIFE FORM wants you bad. Probably insane for him too. Hes got some ego troubles about it, no doubt. hes probably like sonic in that hes not really actively in your life that much but the love is still there.

dont even get me started on a character like metal sonic. GOD. like no matter what youre not going to have a good time. the most interesting part about metal sonic IS his identity crisis. you cant remove him from that. that will infect every part of your interactions and it will be terrible and it will be delicious. he will never be your boyfriend, but you will get engraved on his memory chip so deeply Eggman throws fits over not being able to erase metals thoughts of you.

urg... anyways. I haven't even touched on the girls yet. all of these characters have insane problems (except lowkey sonic. his "problem" is just being an absolute unintentionally emotionally distant beast of nature) and figuring out how you measure up in comparison to these problems is something none of them are all that equipped to deal with.

˙⋆✮ THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! genuinely means a lot, i have it written in my rules/intro but I really do try to write as canon-accurate as possible (or at least... what i think is canon-accurate).

Sonic to me is most interesting and most attractive when his status as a Freak of Nature is pointed out. like he is so insane to think about. yeah he can just casually go lightspeed. yeah he can just kill that god I think he has some time for that. yeah he CANONICALLY doesnt hang out with his friends in between adventures and actually disappears and goes off on his own. taking a step back and seeing him for the mythical untouchable creature he is is just so much fun, so I try to incorporate that as much as I can.

but especially thank you for the way you write sonic. with how inconsistent his writing is if you look at his overall history, even fics where he acts close to his canon self rarely make me feel much because they're based a lot on what he's like in, say, boom. your writing however is scarily accurate to his sonic x version and generally from this era, and it just happens to be my most favourite version of him (and the canon version of him to me forever lmao) so yeah, seriously, your character writing is great

Unbelievably kind message to get in my ask box i really really really appreciate hearing your guys' feedback on my writing and it's really relieving to hear that i'm doing an alright job with my characterization. saying that my sonic is accurate to SONIC X is such high praise oh my god, you're an angel anon (and i saw your other request!! i will get to it soon as i can, thank you!)

I also agree with what you're saying on the boom characterization- sonic boom is a fun show and I have a place in my heart for that sonic but i do feel like the show really damaged the fanbase's perception of its characters (cough... knuckles). its a struggle looking for "canon" Sonic writing bc like... yeah some stuff might be "canon-accurate", but the canon it's accurate TO is shit like forces or lost world 😭😭😭

sonic in sonic x and sonic in SATBK are the two versions of him I try to channel the most in my writing. for shadow, i try to channel his sonic 06 and shadow 05 characterization. i really think he was done well in sonic 06 especially, showing what he was like in a scenario where he's finally moved on from maria, and shadow gens was pretty good too. If i'm feeling stuck writing him or anyone else I go back and i watch cutscenes from those games/shows to get a feel of the character and their voice again.

i personally love canon accurate sonic characters x reader because it would really just be so difficult to be in a relationship with any of them LMAO. i've talked about this minorly before but the angst and navigating the weird and unique pitfalls they all have is what draws me in the most. dabbling in their scarier and dangerous sides is cool too, which is why i have like violent or yandere requests allowed. who doesn't want to see their fave a little crazy and fucked up?

To be honest, keeping stuff accurate with requests is pretty difficult. juggling my thoughts/character accuracy with whatever an anon requests is deceptively tricky and i by no means am a jester trained in juggling! i had a really hard time with the recent sonic + shadow cuddling hcs that was requested of me (NO HATE TO YOU ANON WHO REQUESTED THAT DON'T WORRY MWAH NO SHAME YOU'RE OKAY) because i really just can't imagine them cuddling reader TOGETHER at all. like I simply don't think either of them would really enjoy that. but they requested heavy fluff, so I don't wanna let them down, yknow?

I really hope to request again when you open up! But yeah to be sure to take your time and breaks, I really enjoy your writing!

I loooove to really try so hard to sit back and put myself into the reader's shoes in a situation (especially in scenarios like my stalker shadow post) bc it just makes it all the juicier!! I like my xreader realistic!!
