Sometimes what scares me most is when I lie awake at night knowing full well that my feeling sleepy is nothing but a habit, that as a deimosian the state in which I begin to dream is not experienced in that way, and that I feel this thing voluntarily. i had this meme post about lancer and ai that moderately blew up a while back and it's mostly good, but the opinions I've been seeing from some of the lancer people are baffling
like I'm not gonna shame or call out because these are non-spicy takes on writing quality and lore clarity, there's no need for antagonism
and maybe this is just the current discourse where the subject de jour is critiquing this aspect of the setting
but I just don't see how the writing around nhps is confusing or bad? Yes, it is opaque. yes, it is contradictory. Yes, it implies several different things that don't fully align with each other.
that's the point
the GM and/or players should have options to support any interpretation of what nhps are, or even have them be at odds in universe; one pilot thinking all nhps are super-energy megacomputers and another pilot sure they're all errant cosmic entities captured with code and hardware
there isn't one right answer, the lack of clarity is an intended goal and is a strength of the setting, not a weakness
and maybe I'm being unfair but it feels like the people that want it clearly and strictly and canonically defined are trying to evoke and invoke the worst parts of D&D-esque Rules as Written vs Rules as Intended but not even for combat tactics purposes
it's just trying to cement that their take on the lore is "the most canon" because they can give you more citations
