On NF Empathy
I have a hard time watching someone else in an emotional situation without becoming emotional myself. I understand so completely their emotion that I can feel it within myself.
It makes watching the news and hearing about other people’s suffering almost unbearable.
And why getting lost in a book can change the way I feel and think about life for weeks. I become so closely connected with the characters and their rich emotional lives.
It’s why I cry at movies, songs...commercials.
It’s why I get so excited when I see people I love happy and fulfilled in their lives and why I want the best for my family and friends. Their happiness is also my happiness.
I don’t care “too much,” I don’t feel “too much.”
I care because I feel. The end.

I have found myself in an SF and ST office.
Hi! I have a problem I'd like to share with some fellow INFJs so that hopefully you guys can help me a bit : I'm currently studying (and planning to make this my job later) production & costume design, which requires a great deal of detail-oriented work. In fact, my main professor ASKS US to begin every project by gathering details and many informations and imposes on us to make sense of the bigger picture much, much later. An INFJ's absolute nightmare. (1/2)
(2/2) This whole thing is making me incredibly nervous and stressed. As for making sense of the projects and putting meaning into them, I think I can tackle the problem on my own, but I was wondering if any INFJs had tips on how to deal with detail-oriented work without going completely crazy, because I have no idea how to do this. I am, in fact, so worried that I don’t do anything out of angst. :( Can anybody in the community help me? Thank you so, so much !!
Hello fellow theater nut! I’m glad to hear you are following your passion! Personally, I don’t know what it is like to be in an artistic arena that requires excessive detail but I do know what it is like to be in a work environment that requires a lot of detail. My solutions to handling too much detail have involved: quitting; trying too hard, failing, and feeling like crap; getting fired; and avoiding the situation. None of which I recommend. That being said, I think I have a solution to your problem.
Go your own way. Yes, costume design and production are going to require a fair amount of detail and you will need to find the best ways to handle that (lists, lots of lists) but there are a million different ways people can put on a beautiful show. If you try to be something you are not you are going to completely stifle your creativity. You wouldn’t have gotten into this if you didn’t have the talent for it, so do what you do best in a way that works for you. Work from the big picture first, then focus on the details. Come up with great concept drawings before looking into the logistics. You are an artist. There’s no wrong way to do it.
Your teacher is just trying to teach you the way that helped them the most. But what works for them may simply not work for you. But perhaps you can try talking to them about it. Or ask an intuitive teacher you trust how they handle excessive detail. Finding a mentor in your field you can ask these types of questions to should be your number one priority.
Create something beautiful,
Stay Awesome
I sincerely have too many feelings.
