I've read some really interesting stuff on how she contributed to the modern vampire myth so I'd recommend some of that her personal letters are also really interesting.
Yeah, when I first heard about her she was presented as like a female Dracula and referred to as “the Blood Countess” or something. I didn’t actually realise we still had her personal letters but I’m really interested in reading them so I’ll definitely do that
Yeah I agree that the murders have been exaggerated. 650 seems implausible, especially since (from what I’ve gathered) it was only one account that said that and all the rest put the body count at less than 100. I think for now I still believe that she was a murderer, but I’m intrigued enough about the theory to do some reading on it and on her.
Yeah it's always sounded more to me like a sensationalist myth than an actual historical fact. What do you make of the theory that she was innocent? I only found out about it last night and I'm intrigued by it, but I know fuck-all about her so I can't really make a judgement
