Inspired by Hamilton: The Musical and the novel My Dear Hamilton by Stephanie Drey, My Dear Kelly embarks on a unique journey through history told through the eyes of David Jacobs, “Vice President” of Union Leader Jack Kelly of the 1899 Newsboy Strike. A combination of the 1992 film and Broadway musical Newsies, this retelling dives into the more political background of David’s life. It shows the darker side of Disney and the darker side of history. Told through the eyes of David Jacobs, David retells his life from the beginning to the end. Covering events like the Philippine War, The Pullman Strike, Battleship Maine, Bonnie & Clyde, The John Scopes Monkey Trial of 1925, The Great Depression, WWI, WWII, David not only tells the timeline that shaped his life, he also tells the love, family, betrayals, and grief. He not only tells his own story, but he tells the story of Jack Kelly. And what he could have been. For even all these years later, one question remains unanswered: who lives, who dies, who tells your story.
