Solved: Slow/choppy OS performance when transferring large files across network
I recently swapped out an old 10/100 Ethernet switch the other day and noticed an odd issue. Whenever I would transfer large files (5+ GB) from one system to another on my local LAN, the operating system on my desktop would become slow.
After some lengthy troubleshooting (including confirming that my drivers were up to date), I found the culprit: Citrix DNE LightWeight Filter Driver
Despite the name, the driver was far from lightweight and consuming excessive system resources. I hadn't noticed until recently because the other switches in my network had been throttling speeds at a rate that allowed my system to keep up.
Annnnnnyway, this is just a friendly reminder for other folks that may be experiencing the same (frustrating) thing. To resolve, edit your network adapter properties and uncheck the DNE option (assuming you don't have a legitimate need for it):
