Do you think Silk a.k.a. Cindy Moon would make a good, sort to speak, villain (without being a Dragon Lady type of villain) albeit in her own right? Especially if she'd become one with character depth and go through some character growth as a vill?
I have a lot of thoughts about this and it kinda boils down to this. I do not think Cindy Moon from 616 would make a good villain because we’ve already seen her as one (albeit as a double agent) and she ultimately sees her work as a hero as part of being free from the bunker (at least that’s what I took away from this moment)
No matter what reason they weave into her villain development, it would trash the core character she formed during her original run, which I’d really hate to see. (Plus there’s a bigger need for poc heroes than poc villians.)
But besides that, we don’t need Silk to have a villain Cindy Moon. Gwen’s earth already has a villain Cindy and she needs to be utilized more.
In general earth 65 needs more exploration, but this is especially true for Cindy-65 (aka Nefarious Silk or Superior Silk depending on the comic [nefarious - Silk vol 2 issue 9 / superior - Spider-Gwen vol 2 issue 9]). She’s basically the madame HYDRA of Gwen’s earth minus the nazi roots/racism. According to this bio page of SILK, it was founded to keep “secret masters” (coughSHIELDcoughhack) from “seeking to stamp out individual potential”
So besides having an evil organization that’s way better than marvel’s favorite go to one, let me talk about her and what drives her.
Cindy 65 was ALMOST bit by an experimental spider from Oscorp. Her parents sued Oscorp and in the court stuff, she learned that had she been bitten, she would have either gained powers or died. Cindy was tortured over the thought that either she had either almost died or had lost her only chance at greatness. She spent her life in persuit of her lost chance (pushing away her family, spending all the money from the lawsuit, etc) and joined SHIELD for a period since they were willing to fund her research. Eventually SHIELD tried to shut down her research and, in a moment of both fear of losing her life’s work and the potential of dying, she released the spider she had recreated into the wild, which later bit Gwen Stacy. She’s how Gwen became Spider-Gwen (and also how she eventually lost her powers but w/e). After the event Cindy-65 premeired in, Marvel hasn’t really used her outside of being a sort of guiding figure for Gwen.
Cindy 65 is ripe for use and already has the motivations to be a villain. Silk (616) has already shown it’s too ingrained in her to be good. I can’t imagine a supervillain having a past where they were willing to sacrifice 10+ years of their lives to protect everyone. It’s just not in her nature to be a true villain and to make it so would destroy a lot of her character. At baddest, she could be morally gray like Black Cat.
But in the end, I don’t think we even need the prospect of Silk being a villain because we already have Cindy Moon as a villain just waiting in prison to be broken out and developed more.
Sorry I kinda went on a tangent. 😅 But hopefully this answers your question. 😊
I know I haven’t posted in forever but I wanted to share something on Stan Lee’s birthday. (I have so many pictures backlogged I need to upload one day 😅) this was such a fun shoot and I’m glad I was able to find a photographer willing to do it with me.
