Elisabeth would be the fiery independent woman who don’t need no man and who has to have her own way in everything (bonus points if she is Spoiled By Overly Indulgent Father) and Death the arrogant, possessive alpha male Lord of Darkness who will not take no for an answer and whose dialogue tags would just be “he growled” for four hundred pages straight. They clash almost every time they meet even if it is for no good reason, have constant misunderstandings (Death being jealous of milksop fiancé Franz Joseph with whom Elisabeth is convinced she is in love but does not actually love, and Death haunting Elisabeth’s suicidal cousin Rudolfa who is way too into Death for Elisabeth’s tastes) and have sexy times (sans actual kissing, because y’know) half the time. Lucheni would be the two dimensional villain tapped by Death who goads him into taking Elisabeth, what are you waiting for, you’re freakin’ Death, but Death hesitates because of the ~feels he can’t articulate because he is too Manly. At the end there is a clause that turns Elisabeth into the living bride of Death and so obligatory HEA.
