Hi again! Could you develop a bit what u mean by when you say "learn how to hone it"? (Ne-Si ask) thank you if you can
well i don’t know enough to tell you how to properly develop your functions, i would refer you to @funkymbtifiction for that, but just from personal experience (and from what i understand about the functions), you’d have to learn to be more deliberate and purposeful in the process of pursuing your interests. if you really find it hard to commit to a particular investment, or just to narrow them down, then you have to decide what exactly it is you want from your recreation, and make some sacrifices.
high Ne is by nature very open, and sees in terms of prospects and optionality, so having to prioritise, like actually prioritise, and restrict your focus, feels like a betrayal almost, a spurning of the validity and potential of other possibilities. which is why you have to set boundaries––be clear on your standards and desires. i used to direct my energy into all kinds of non-academic interests, just on impulse, but couldn’t commit in the long-term because i disliked the regimental structure of acquiring skills via a course or programme. i was into all kinds of media and entertainment but none of it has had any true emotional impact on me because my attention was divided and i couldn’t dedicate myself to one thing, or even just a few things. until i started tapping into my Ti.
idk what your type is, but if your Ne is aux (i.e. another function precedes it; either Ti or Fi), then it might be a good idea to check with that function to help you find a focus. to put it another way, you should develop a taste. the more specific, the better, honestly, especially for high Ne, because it forces you to gravitate towards certain things, instead of arbitrarily indulging in as many as possible. that’s the thing about dominant introverted functions––they’re very subjective, and they have the strongest influence over you, so if you’re Ti-dom, you’d learn to be more critical of what you’re getting into and be rational about the situation, hence offsetting the Ne urge to Entertain All Of It. if you’re Fi-dom, you’d probably want to do what resonates most with you (which narrows the field considerably).
you could also leverage on Si, which might be more useful if you’re Ne-dom, because then your main axis would balance. Ne-doms would probably get nowhere in life if they didn’t anchor themselves in some sort of habit, tradition, or practice. you just gotta be more disciplined in chasing your interests. the next time something appeals to you, recognise the impulse and try to reflect on it instead of going straight in. reference to past experiences––is this new attraction something you’re genuinely interested in, or just a satiation of that urge to explore?
TL;DR shift your attention from Ne to other functions, either your dominant or inferior one, because they’ll direct the opportunism of your extroverted function to serve personal inclinations. be more picky. really.
