Thank you so much, I'm getting really sick of this attitude as well, what's worse is the fact that it makes it really annoying to follow fandom or art blogs as they seem to be the (non-social justice blogs) ones that do it the most.
This is a hella late reply, and I’m sorry anon. I’m really bad at replying to things. orz
You’re welcome. Yeah, people are starting to take things too far to the point where they’re making good people feel guilty about things they didn’t do, or erasing other people’s experiences.
I guess it has something to do with how information circulates. When enough misinformation is repeated, people will start believing it’s true. Most of them aren’t bad people, but they’re having all this propaganda thrown at them and on tumblr, it’s easy for this sort of thing to happen. We want to always be right and so we surround ourselves with people who think the same. Sometimes we try to change our opinions to match our friends’ so that they don’t hate us. That’s why I still follow people who post some things I don’t disagree with. It’s just that once in a while it’s too much and I feel a need to rant.
discrimination against asians is definitely a thing!! (also on tumblr there are a lot of blogs talking about this btw if you're interested, i feel like they can put your hurt into better words maybe?) but i don't feel like there is discrimination against white people? since soo many countries were invaded and even Japan for example (or Korea, or Malaysia, or Vietnam, or Mexico, etc) has absorbed western beauty ideals of white skin and still treats white people MUCH better than dark-skinned ppl
It's okay, I'm not very interested in following Asian Justice blogs. I just don't like people's experiences getting erased/ignored/rewritten to fit an agenda. I like animus and mangos and other cartoons. And cute birds and cats and dogs and silly puns and weird videos.
There is most definitely discrimination against white people. Even if they are generally treated better than other races, does not mean there's no discrimination. There's discrimination right here! On tumblr! Where we're calling white people shitty regardless of their personal merit as a human and member of society. Maybe most countries as a whole do not discriminate against White people, but individuals and groups do.
Also, there's more than one kind of White. Some white people discriminate against other white people. Discrimination against Irish people is still a thing in some places. Discrimination against Polish people. Discrimination against other groups of white people I'd be able to name if I did proper research.
I'm not sure if the whole Asians liking white skin thing is really because of western beauty ideals. I mean, so many white people I knew liked getting tans.
Also I thought the whole Asians liking light skin thing was because light skin = you didn't have to work out in the fields where you'd get tanned = you're probably rich = you're to be envied. And it just stuck through generations, or something like that where it became a beauty standard instead of a class thing. Plus, I always thought the white rice powder make up stuff predated any major European influences on Japan, but I'm not well versed in Japanese history.
But yes, you are right, in many countries lighter skin is usually treated better than darker skin. That doesn't mean all light skin people are not discriminated against, though. Perhaps, as a whole, they face less discrimination. But we are individuals.
I messed up and now I'm too embarrassed to ask you to duo, I accidentally put anon 😭
Hahah it's okay.
Well I can't play League that much anyway. Pretty much the only time I can play is thursdays and fridays around 2am PST/PDT
But why?:( what if I think you're totes cute
Why what? Is this the League anon? Bro, cute has nothing to do with winning games. If cute was a factor, I’d play Anivia all the time ‘cause she’s the cutest champ ever.
