summary: you always looked at him from the corner of the classroom, but now, he was right next to you, and definitely not how you expected him to be.
you woke up, eyes still red and swollen from the previous evening. you stared at the white ceiling of your room for a couple of minutes before getting up. it was only the second day of school and you already wanted it to be over. you had english class that day, and that meant Renjun. you quickly got dressed and got out of your house, eating your breakfast on the way to school. you didn’t want to be late that day. when you arrived at school, the classroom was empty and you breathed a sigh of relief. you wanted to avoid everyone’s eyes. you sat down at your place and opened your book, waiting for lesson to start. the bell rang after a couple of minutes and room started to fill up with students. you saw Renjun’s figure approaching to you, you kept your gaze on your book as he murmured an embarrassed “good morning” that didn’t receive any answers. you could feel his eyes on you the whole time, but it wasn’t as you expected. you expected to hear the sneers of his friends behind you, you expected them to make fun of you. but none of this happened. instead, his eyes looked full of regret.
finally, the lesson was over. you quickly grabbed your stuff, getting out of the classroom as soon as you could. you felt a soft hand around your wrist “y/n, can i talk to you?” you stopped, but didn’t look at him “there’s nothing to talk about, Renjun” his grip tightened as you tried to walk away “y/n, i’m sorry. i didn’t want to stand you up” you turned to look at him “then why did you do that?” his eyes were looking into yours “i called you last evening. i wanted to apologise. i really wanted to go out with you, but the ballet lesson took longer that i expected and i couldn’t make it” the eye contact between you two made your legs shake “i- thought.. i thought you didn’t-” “i know and i’m sorry, can i make it up to you?” he moved closer to you, his grip on your wrist was now kind and sweet and his hand moved down and connected with yours. everything was happening so fast that you didn’t even know what to say, what to do, you just murmured a shy “sure”, hypnotised by his eyes. he smiled “you’ll be late for chemistry” you nodded, slowly turning “wait, do you know my schedule?” he looked at the ground “i asked Mina..” you walked towards the next class, with a big smile on your face and your cheeks burning.

you were fifteen minutes early, you were too nervous and excited to stay at home while looking at the clock. you could see Renjun walking back and forth in front of the shop, holding something behind his back. his eyes widened when he spotted you “hey, y/n! you are.. so pretty” he handed you a sunflower with a cute white ribbon tied on its stem “this is for you, to apologise for yesterday. it reminded me of you and i know you love them” you blushed “thank you”.
you walked down the river banks, talking about your hobbies, your passions. he spent probably half an hour talking about how much he loved Moomin. you had so much more in common than you expected and you just wished you had had the courage to talk to him earlier. “how did you save me in your contacts?” he suddenly asked you “uhm.. renjun.. why?” “can i change it?” “w-why” he moved closer to you, his face was just inches apart from yours “are you hiding something?” you held tight your phone in your hand but, as soon as his fingers reached your cheek, your body relaxed and he grabbed your phone “that was way too easy” he laughed “wait, what is,, this?” he showed you his contact on your phone, you knew you had to change it. “i was just.. very excited when you texted me for the first time..” he smiled looking at your red cheeks “you’re so cute”.
you were sitting on the grass, your hands brushing against each other, looking at the sunset. the peachy sky reflected in his deep brown eyes. you’ve dreamed about this moment for years, but your hopes were starting to fade. and now he was right there, next to you. the sweet and kind Renjun that you always looked at from the corner of the room, was right beside you. and you didn’t want him to leave.
