To commemorate National Read a Road Map Day, we’re sharing a map from Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. This guide map, printed in 1942, highlights a few picnic grounds, paved roads, the Appalachian Trail, ranger stations and other resources throughout the site for guests to enjoy during their visit. National Read a Road Map Day reminds us of a time before the Global Positioning System (GPS) was ubiquitous. This road map and more is available through NARA’s online catalog: https://catalog.archives.gov/id/30249393.
