Hey, so I'm interested in attending University of Maryland College Park and I was wondering what your experiences were like? How hard was the academic rigor? Did you ever feel discriminated against for being african american? I'm a black male btw
Hello! I think it’s going to depend on what college you attend. I graduated with an animal sciences degree, and I have to be honest, there wasn’t much diversity there. I did feel somewhat excluded. However, because it’s such a huuuuge campus there is always a way to find your own niche. I found mine in the quidditch team!
In terms of academic rigor, animal sciences definitely busted my balls. But! I am now in vet school and I definitely feel like my undergrad prepared me for the work here. Overall, being an african american at UMCP is what you make it. I honestly feel like the only reason I felt alienated was because of my personality - I’m overly cautious and suspicious when it comes to people, so it always takes me a while to actually make friends….For you it may be completely different.
Anyone else have some input? (I’m friends with people on tumblr who go/went to UMCP with me.)
