i might elaborate on this someday but i think the only relationship in fiction i've seen that reaches griffguts' level of emotional intensity in guts hating longing for resenting feeling betrayed and abandoned by griffith while at the same time loving him dearly and helplessly and eternally is itempas/nahadoth from the inheritance trilogy with nahadoth's feelings toward itempas. itempas/nahadoth also has the same type of cataclysmic world-altering consequences that griffguts has! however i will also say itempas is significantly crazier about nahadoth than griffith is about guts. which is impressive

I would say that yeine naha and tempa are sun stars amd moon but thats wrong. thats now what they are.
they are stars space and ground
they are suns and back holes and planets
wait
(cut because my thoughts got long)
not black holes; that does naha a disservice and ignores that they were the first.
naha is just. the space that Space occupies.
maybe switch the caps
and tempa is the stars that formed from the chaotic gas clouds
and enefa was the first planets-- rocky, lifeless, cold, forever flirting between sundeath and the void; between a blazing and cooked ball of rock, and drifting as an icy asteroid
eventually she flung from orbit and became an exoplanet, unable to balance herself in her steady rotations, leaving the suns' systems in wack.
when her unsteady orbit came into contact with her stars, again, she crashed
she hadnt expected the pebbles circling the star to change its--*his* orbit. she hadnt accounted for the lack of her presence in the system, how gravity would cope
how the orbits would change
how mass matters but proximity squared can drown out the largest things if they are far away
how stars change much more slowly than planets, but they do change
so. enefa burned. and life returned to what it had been before ground
except
except--
there was still the gas clouds tempa was born from, the space of naha where anything wasn't, and- and- and-
asteroids and meteors and comets and all the little gusts of momentum enefa had left around
and the void's rage at the violence of the star
and the heat of the sun always comsuming *things* and shedding *things* and radiating and
well
maybe this is a bad analogy, huh? in this, the stars change but the void doesn't.
maybe the void shouldn't be the nothing, it should be the *movement*. With no planets, a sun doesn't move. however, it is susceptible to smaller movements from smaller bodies if a large planet is out of the picture.
and suns-- well, all movement is relative, and when youre the heaviest thing around you're being orbited. so, what are you moving relative to?
so. back to the story
there was still inertia, gusts of movement rippling through: whispers of enefa. her gifts
black holes and asteroid belts anf small oddities between
but. with the void angry at the stars, the stars' small shifter struck. did something unimagineable
the clever little thing had been darting around, and every other thing was in perfect orbit around the sun
nothing interacted, nothing adjusted; perfect circular orbits in a single plane
all of them with constant velocity, constant *angular* velocity
an unknown phenomenon. relative eachother, all was still for a time.
by the time that time was over, all the asteroids had become nearly spherical. the issue?
that sun needed fuel. It could not live without consumig gasses, and it could not consume while stationary unless the gas came to him (which, in this too-still world, it did not)
so he set himself up for failure; tiltef a smidge to the left and let the electromagnetic disturbance fix the rest.
not really. that was the last gust of movement enefa had left, echoing its way across the universe. it bumped an asteroid against another, and those two tumbled in passion into another, and on it went. how could the star stop this?
he couldnt, from the lofty perch his shifter had put him on before sacrificing herself into his flames.
and thus another planet was born; another ground with an atmosphere, another *enefa*. but this one wasnt.
Y’all if you’re here for pining and longing and heartbreak you cannot get better than NK Jemison’s Inheritance Trilogy.
My god the way Nahadoth and Itempas feel about each other is insane. And about Enefa.
“Nahadoth,” he says, smiling and extending his hands…I shiver. The thing his tongue does to those syllables. He has come to seduce the god of seduction and oh has he come prepared.
“Nahadoth looks utterly demented. But then so does Itempas as he stares down Nahadoth’s rage. There is open lust in his eyes. Unmistakeable beneath the warriors tension. But of course, how many eons did they spend battling? Raw violence giving way to stranger longings? Or perhaps Itempas has simply been so long without Nahadoth’s love that he will take anything, even hate, in its place.”
“I will hate you no less, Tempa,” he breathes, “when you and I are the last living things in this universe”
I went to Naha and took his hand. Itempas watched us like a man dying of thirst within sight of a waterfall.

[Note: click for better quality, I put a lot of detail in this one]
Happy birthday to my sis!! ❤️ Made it in time for once in my life xD
People who've been following me for long enough will know it's tradition that every year I draw something for my sis' birthday. This year, and after much thinking, I went for fanart of a book we both love: The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms, by @nkjemisin
Man, this scene gives me so many feelings, I hope I did it justice. Also, for people who have not read the book 1) go read it, and 2) don't worry, this is not as major a spoiler as it seems, it happens at the beginning of the book.
Anyway, onto the drawing! My gosh, did it make me struggle or what? Naha's shadowy hair/cloak was a challenge, so was trying to capture the quality of Sky's walls. I really had fun tho, and I'm actually pretty happy with Yeine's clothes (I don't know how accurate they are to the book's description, but I did my best) ^^
