That was a turning point — the emperor was dead, but Tai has not yet been crowned.
He is the emperor's killer.
He is his father's killer.
And he is the only logical heir to the throne.
Tiss is not a subject standing behind her ruler.
She is not yet the partner standing beside him.
She is an accidental witness to the moment people will label him differently.
But to her,
Fearful as she is,
Uncertain as she is,
he is still simply her "Tai."
P.S. Perhaps I'm just sentimental, but choosing the black outfit and only later realising it matched Tai's so perfectly at this turning point, made me unbelievably happy. 🖤

Other sprite reference (updated on 30th Jul): The game also uses this expression here. I found both versions conveyed a very similar emotional atmosphere, but I happened to capture the first one by chance, and that became the image that inspired this post.

Sunborn (SB) co-author, N.O.V.A.'s recent Q and A highlights
I came across this recent Q&A with N.O.V.A. and thought some of the story-related answers might be interesting to English-speaking readers. I’ve gathered a few highlights below. 😊
(Originally shared on Reddit. The first version was removed by moderation; after revising and reposting it, the second version was also removed. Archived here for reference.)
One detail I found particularly interesting was how the English version uses “Wren” while other language versions use “Ren”, and how we can already see this difference reflected in the dialogue.

Appendix: Text version
For accessibility and easier reading, I’ve included a text version of the highlights in the screenshots, below.
Some interesting takeaways from SB co-creator’s recent Q&A (story-related highlights) ⭐
Story-related parts were translated and summarized from a recent creator Q&A. Rather than the full interview, SB story-relevant responses are highlighted here.
🌿 Ren’s origin
Ren wasn't based on one specific real-life person. Instead, she gradually took shape from a combination of personality traits and the situations she'll experience.
Her light-skinned sprite was partly inspired by features commonly associated with Irish people.
The English default name Wren was chosen after research into the bird and the symbolism surrounding it. The author felt both the bird's personality and the folklore around wrens fit Ren well. Players are, of course, free to rename her.
⌛ Development
The co-author joined the project after New Year and the story was released in June, so her involvement before release lasted roughly six months.
When asked to describe the story in one sentence, she answered:
"We're wolves, brother."
One word she chose to describe the atmosphere of the continuation:
Consequences.
📖 Story structure
There won't be a balanced stat route.
Endings will depend on both your chosen stat path and the decisions you make throughout the story.
Three seasons are currently planned.
🌙 Moonborn
She first discovered Moonborn while it was still being released.
Her favourite characters are the werewolves because of their mutual support and love of freedom.
💬 On reader feedback
She admitted she doesn't have time to follow every discussion, but some reactions still reach her.
One of her memorable comments:
"The best way to avoid making mistakes is... to actually make them."
She also added that she's still learning a completely new medium, so not everything will be perfect from the beginning—and that's okay.
✍️ Continuing an existing story
One of the longest answers explained what it's like to continue someone else's world.
Some key points:
- Working in an established universe is very different from creating your own.
- Alexander (Jester) shared the world's foundations, story framework, and major milestones from the beginning.
- Her role is to build the journey between those milestones while keeping the characters believable.
- Most new characters were created by her, but their personalities and designs were developed together.
- Alexander (Jester) carefully reviews scenes involving his original characters to ensure they remain true to themselves.
- She especially admires the amount of care he puts into making every route feel meaningful, regardless of whether players spend diamonds or which ending they reach.
❤️ Final message
She thanked everyone for their time and feedback, and promised to do her best to tell an interesting story.
When Stories Feel Different the Second Time Around
Some stories don’t fully make sense the first time you read them. They make more sense later.
I think that’s part of why I keep returning to Jester’s stories. They feel less like something you fully understand on a first read, and more like something that gradually comes into focus over time.
Across different stories, whether it’s LOW, PSI, Moonborn, or TTS, there’s a similar feeling that what’s presented on the surface isn’t the full structure. Events, character choices, even relationships often make a certain kind of sense in the moment, but start to read differently when you revisit them with more context.
What I find interesting is that a lot of the meaning seems to come not just from what happens, but from how things unfold, in the patterns that only become clearer over time.
It gives the sense that there’s an underlying logic at work, built in layers that aren’t immediately visible.
I’ve seen it described as falling into a pattern, but it feels less like repetition and more like a consistent structure being explored in different ways. The similarities make it easier to notice the underlying logic, rather than making the stories feel the same.
These stories feel quite different in pacing, they don’t always prioritise immediate payoff. Sometimes the emphasis is on setting up conditions, or letting something sit unresolved for a while. It can feel subtle at first, but it also means that later developments tend to connect back in ways that make earlier moments feel more deliberate.
When things come together, it creates a subtle sense of resolution that makes earlier moments read differently.
I think that’s what makes them the kind of stories I end up re-reading. Not necessarily to confirm a theory, but to see whether the patterns hold, or if something I initially read one way might actually sit differently within the larger structure.
It makes me wonder whether these stories are meant to be read more than once. Do they feel different to you on a second read, or do they largely stay the same?

When the Shadow Feels Like Part of Tiss’ Story | TTS
At some point, I started paying closer attention to what the shadow actually does, and a pattern began to emerge.
In The Thunderstorms Saga (TTS), the shadow feels tied to Tiss beyond simply following her. Something in the way it behaves seems to point back to her quite consistently.
It acts in relation to her, consistently targeting those who harmed her, and even makes her witness those moments, as if her experience of it matters as well.
Might that be part of what’s driving it?
I wonder if strong emotion, like hate, might play a role in how it was summoned or shaped.
At the same time, not every death attributed to the shadow seems to follow that pattern, which makes its actions feel more selective than they might first appear.
The way it appears (even in places like Airdal’s castle) makes it feel like there may be some underlying rules to where or how it can manifest, rather than it simply appearing wherever she is.
What stands out to me is how much more direct the shadow feels in the way it pushes Tiss, especially against moments where she asserts control.
I keep coming back to a moment where Tiss (Raven path), facing the undead alone, says:
“You have no power over me. Neither my mind nor body belongs to you. I command you to leave me.”
There’s something about that kind of language — the clarity of it, the refusal within it — that feels significant. It sits in tension with the way the shadow behaves, and makes me wonder how that kind of resistance interacts with something like the shadow.
I’m not sure what that connection is yet — whether it’s something shaped by emotion, something tied to a broader origin, or even something with deeper roots in lineage rather than a specific individual.
What it does feel like is that the shadow is part of her story, not just something acting on it.
Edit: The wording on Raven path vs Falcon path is different.
(Raven path) (As above. Then) "Ignoring the sorceress's clear demand, the Shadow drifted toward her."
(Falcon path) "“I do not permit you to come closer.” The clearly stated refusal didn't stop it."

One of the pieces played in PSI is Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata.”
My mind immediately went to Ivo and Lou’s kiss scene when I recognized it. The restrained intensity and emotional quietness of the piece feel like that scene to me.
But I love how other readers associate it with different moments too — the moonlit cello scene, the planetarium date…
It somehow fits all of them. 🤍🎻

TTS | For Introverts — “There’s Someone in Ro’od Who Understands You”
I was so swept up by Tai’s impulsive, ardent affection earlier that I almost completely missed the quiet intimacy of Aldir’s second kiss scene.
“There’s someone in Ro’od who understands you.”
I suspect this scene will touch many introverts' hearts. With only a few simple words, Aldir sees the truth in Tiss without her needing to explain herself. And it feels like Tiss sees Aldir too.
His gentle treatment of her hair. Tiss’s teasing response. The warmth of the backdrop.
I didn’t expect the kiss-stealing spy’s scenes to feel this tender. 🌻
See how happy Aldir looks when Tiss doesn't reject having dinner with him.
