By the time Black had entered his little house in the Dream World, his eyelids were already drooping. He kicked off his shoes, threw his cap and jacket onto the chair, and collapsed under the soft pink and purple comforter.

He was exhausted. His body and mind were stressed and sore from the day, of taking care of his worried Pokémon, of planning with Reshiram a way to get out, of another day of getting nowhere…

A curious snout sniffed at the back of his head. No doubt it was Musha who had followed him inside. Had he left the door open?

“Musha, shut the door,” he murmured, too fatigued to even speak. Last time the door was left open, he awoke to a herd of Sunkern bouncing playfully on his bed. It had taken forever to shoo them out. But despite that, he still couldn’t bother to get up and close the door himself.

A soft click came from the other side of the room. Guess Musha got the message and closed the door – actually, it was quite silent now, and he deduced that his Pokémon had actually left, hungry yet having no appetite for Black’s stressful dreams. He couldn’t blame him.

But once again he was left alone in his house, with his thoughts. What is he going to do? How long has he been trying? The days blended together in this world; sometimes it was hard to tell if he were awake or merely dreaming all of this. He used to have such vigor, planning with his Pokémon and Reshiram of what to do, of what to try next to get out - or at least let someone know where they were. It was his makeshift dream, an intermission in this interruption of his real journey.

But that vigor was ebbing away now. What happened? This was so unlike him.  

Oh, why couldn’t Musha at least stay with him and kept him company…

As if on cue, another snort blew at his hair, jolting him from his semi-sleep state. Musha! He never left?

The Pokémon, sensing his trainer’s distress, simply settled on the bed beside him and rested his cheek on Black’s bedhead.

The comforting gesture touched him. Black gave his companion a wavering smile and reached up to pat his head. “Thanks, Musha. I’m okay, just tired.”

Musha cooed in response. Black gave him a few more pats then settled back under the covers.

As always I love how the gold gradient gets smoothed out alongside the shiny metal pipes becoming rounder and more metallic looking
