🙉what are two things that make my muse uncomfortable in conversation (Part 2) 

Edward really hates talking about his father and his mother. He can do it and he will but both conversations leave him with a different after taste of depression. Both conversations leave him feeling empty and broken, bitter and disgusting. Both conversations leave him feeling alone. Feeling alone makes him uncomfortable because with feeling alone he feels unwanted and his depression runs rampant with that emotion. He doesn’t know how to control it. 

He also gets really uncomfortable when he has to tell the lies surrounding Alphonse’s body / armor or his automail. Despite the fact that he seeped his sob story in a helping of truth, it still makes him uncomfortable because he is terrified of the day when someone finds out that he’s lying and it backlashes on them  but not just them - it’ll backlash on Mustang too and everyone else who knows the truth for covering for them and then they’ll all go down on this sinking ship together. He doesn’t want anyone else to have to suffer for his mistakes.

For things that go bump in the night, Ed didn’t really have that problem. The lived out in the countryside and with his love of science starting at five he from an early age decided monsters weren’t real.  However as he got older, the masked man from Yock Island came to ruin his nightmares and he found himself on edge constantly after they went through that training, despite knowing the masked man’s identity when Izumi came to get them. Living in a run for your life environment for nearly a month cranked his intuition / paranoia up past 10 and he finds himself tuning into the sounds in the darkness even now.  

That fear was quickly amplified by the darkness that lives within the portal of truth and those black tendrils of darkness and truth it’s self haunt him even to this day. He will wake screaming in a full panic from nightmares of the portal, finding himself twisted in his blankets after trying to shake them off of himself in his sleep. When he wakes like this he’s not in his right mind and he’s usually screaming for his brother. Thankfully Al is normally the one who’s with him so he can be brought to calm quickly but if he were to have a nightmare and Al is not there, it would be quite the task to calm him down. 

Added to his list as life went on, because he’s a teenager so still technically a child, was Scar. While his nightmares are most frequently dreams of being twisted up in his black hands with no way to get himself free,  Scar will appear in his nightmares from time to time while the only option left to him is to run. So he spends his nights running for his life in his dreams, and those dreams either end with his automail shattering on him again and the mad panic that ran through him when it happened in reality, or it somehow mixes with the portal of truth issue and he finds himself trapped and unable to free himself before a murderous Ishvalan delivers him a gruesome fate.

🙅‍♂️what does my muse feel insecure about?

His body. Edward has a mean set of body issues. 

He’s missing two limbs and he’s covered in scars. He does not think of himself as beautiful in anyway shape or form. He’s very insecure about the way he looks. He’s insecure about his scars. He’s excessively insecure when his automail needs to be removed and someone can see him in his “true body”.  He thinks of himself as less than - no matter how false that is. He thinks of himself in a very negative sense and the only thing he likes about himself is probably is hair. 

On top of the disability issues, he has his height to worry about and he gets mocked for it constantly when it’s literally something that’s out of his control.  Edward reacts so violently, so over the top at teasing / mocking of his stature because he legitimately wonders if something is wrong with him. What he could have done to not be in the situation he’s in. He thinks being the height he is, is his fault.  

He takes mocking and teasing of his height, excessively personal. He can’t filter it out as just teasing because words are not just words to him. Ed is the polar opposite of ‘sticks and stone may break my bones but words will never hurt me’ . Words can cut him to the quick and its verbal insults that take him even longer to recover from than psychical ones.

🎒what was my muse’s worst subject in school?

The thing to think about with Edward, is he was considered a ‘genius’ long before he was a State Alchemist and he was studying subjects that college level material when he was in grade school blowing off his teachers because he had more important things to be doing. like bringing his mom back from the dead.  So it wasn’t so much that Edward bad at a subject as he just didn’t give a damn enough to try. 

And that’s where speech comes in. He drove his teaches insane with his extra informal way of speaking, as I’m sure you’ve all noticed, and no matter how much they tried to correct him and force him speak properly, he wouldn’t. Can he talk like a normal person? Of course he can, but  he just doesn’t understand why it’s so important to “slow down and annunciate” his words when you all can understand him just fine.  His written word is all spelled correctly and he used to be able to write in perfect cursive pre-automail. 

Verbally? Not so much. Speaking without his usual accent is difficult for him but doable.  His voice however becomes slow and his thoughts get choppy because he’s spending so much time thinking about how he’s saying things, instead of just saying things. 

Example: 

“I know how I’m supposed to talk, you don’t have to tell me what to do.”  

Is excessive difficult for him to say because he wants to just speak without thinking but if he does it comes out. 

“I know how I’m supposa’ta talk you don’t hafta tell me what ta do.”

⧱ what really is my muse’s biggest flaw  

He relates love and abuse together as the same thing and has a hard time accepting love for himself. He doesn’t trust easily and has a hard time saying no because he believes at it’s core, if he is made useful then people won’t leave. He’s self deprecating and self sabotaging.  

He would rather people hate him than actually take the time to process his hurt and trauma. He’s quick to jump to the conclusion that people hate or dislike him. 

That’s partly why Feli’s post from earlier blindsided him.  

When she said “ though i hope to always assure edward of his existence and how i cherish it , and him . “ 

That shit took him out.  If only for the fact that she is assuring him that his existence is okay.   

He blames himself for everything, including his mother’s death and his father’s abandonment of them. He thinks of himself as a burden that others tolerate or put up with and he has a hard time finding truth in the words “I love you.” 

The only person he hears those words from regularly is his brother and that’s only because Edward, himself, started forcing himself to say them to his brother over and over if only to just establish that he does in fact love Alphonse and there can be no doubt or question in it because after the “false memories incident” he can’t do that again.  

He doubts how people feel about him constantly because he has horrible trust issues, so he doesn’t want there to be any question to how he feels about others. He doesn’t want them to wonder if he loves them or not.

Frame of Reference:  David’s ability to understand behaviours in others is limited by his own life experience.  When he sees others being excessively emotional, or impetuous, or acting without thought to consequence, it boggles him.  Only after brief consideration over it does he remember the fact that all of these vampires around him are locked in the spirit of their physical age.  He has to consciously recall that these creatures are immortalized with their hormones, their mental development, and that time might lend them further experience but those factors remain with them.  So it isn’t uncommon for David to shake his head with a ‘Those crazy youngsters’ vibe.

Prudish:  Engaging in casual sexual acts, discussion or other aspects of sexual intimacy are difficult with David except in subtle reference.  He’s a sensualist in the sense that he appreciates the sensory experience of intimacy rather than the act itself.  And there is such a need in him to build trust with someone before he can even begin a sexual relationship that it would be slow moving for his potential partner.  David had to basically turn that part of himself off due to the reaction of the Talamasca to his last true relationship that involved sex (Joseph, not Merrick) and the circumstances there left a stamp of trauma in him.  Sometimes it is downright impossible to get the muse to cooperate when the dashboard looks like a sex club.  He keeps ‘sex’ and ‘intimacy’ as two entirely different concepts.  Someone will likely ask him eventually which will result in a rambling explanation.  Ha.
