Pairing: Hideyoshi/Kaneki Theme: au; hide and seek
Hide always had the tendency of following Kaneki around. It didn’t start out that way; their friendship started with Hide coming up to Kaneki, the more exuberant boy would lead them on adventures and decide where they would play. It didn’t change too much as they grew up together; Kaneki was always quieter, more demure, willing to let Hide decide, not giving much of an answer when he’d ask.
But one day, Hide began to follow him around.
Kaneki was predictable. Cafes and bookstores, mostly, aside from class. Walks around the park and sitting on benches. Flower pressing and reading up on trees. Drinking tea and falling asleep in places with a book. Really, Hide thought, Kaneki was like an old man.
Yet whenever Hide spoke to him, told him to do something more exciting, that he was a teenager, he should be sneaking into clubs and having the time of his life, Kaneki never seemed to hear him and continued doing what he liked, leading a calm, quiet, peaceful life.
Hide gave a tired smile and shook his head. Man, Kaneki… you’re never going to change, huh?
There was one day where Kaneki did change his pattern and Hide was a bit surprised. They stopped by a flower shop first and Hide smirked.
"Got yourself a girlfriend?"
Ignored.
Clicking his tongue, Hide’s hands were in his pockets as he followed Kaneki down the steps into the subway station, leaning against a railing. The ride wasn’t too long, but Kaneki was strangely quiet. No music that day. No book, even. Just him and some flowers, staring down at them.
Hide’s question went unanswered again and he had no choice but to follow Kaneki to the destination. They passed by a pair of rather menacing looking gates and Hide frowned at the atmosphere. “Oi, man. Let’s go. This place is kind of creepy—”
His eyes trailed to where Kaneki had stopped and realized there was a stone with engraving on it. The boy with black hair bent down in front of it and reached into his back pocket to take out some tissues, beginning to dust off the slight dirt he could find. There were already flowers there and Hide swallowed as he watched Kaneki position his own bouquet.
"…Kaneki," he mumbled and looked away, shifting. "I told you… you don’t have to come here."
"I miss you, Hide."
Frowning, Hide’s steps were silent as he walked around Kaneki and leaned against the stone, listening to him.
"I… really miss you. It’s not the same going to all those places without you nagging me about trying to pick up a girl instead of keeping my nose in my books. I miss how you’d always say that coffee is bitter and try to convince me to sneak into those clubs. I really… miss everything about you."
Giving a small smile, Kaneki reached forward, flicking away a bit of dirt by the words.

"I miss you too, Kaneki."
But he didn’t hear him and Hide didn’t mind anymore. Kaneki couldn’t see him, didn’t know that Hide was still going with him to all the places they’d always go to, saying the exact same things they always would. Cracking a smile, Hide reached up and palmed the back of his neck.
"…Bein’ a ghost is pretty lonely, actually."
@rin-matsuokas-hips answered: You seen Hannibal yet? @elvesandberries answered: Have you tried Hannibal? While it’s not exactly psychological, it does touch on it, and it’s beautiful to look at.
Ohh I haven't seen Hannibal yet but I actually wanted to watch it but forgot, so that's a good one. (I didn't know the cinematography was good tho so that's nice)
@murrochin answered: Paranoia Agent
I started watching Paranoia Agent last year but dropped it for no reason?? I guess I'll rewatch it sometime.
@jizeru1 answered: Lesson of the Evil and Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne both are fucked up :D
Holy shit Mnemosyne looks fucked up as hell (I'm definitely gonna watch it). Lesson of the Evil looks like an entertaining popcorn movie too
