400 RANDOM DIALOGUE PROMPTS, accepting.
the shelter they’ve found for the night may be secure but it sure isn’t dry. the leaks in the roof are a little more prominent than abby’d originally thought, so she can understand yara’s concern — especially with the fact that the former wolf had insisted that the former scars take the least wet portion of the room.
so abby sits, arms wrapped around her knees as she tries to release even a little of the tension that makes her shoulders ache as drops of water hit her skin over and over and over. she doesn’t even notice that, though. her mind’s a thousand miles away as she seeks out some place in her memories that’s untainted by the pain she just wants a second’s respite from... but it’s not going well. everyone she’s loved is gone. everyone who populates those memories has taken another part of her heart with them. every. fucking. person.
sure, yara and lev are welcome additions to her life as she navigates the complexity of evolution and loss and moving on, but they’re not people she’s known forever. they’re not her dad, or owen, or manny, or... hell, even mel wouldn’t be the worst person to see right now. they’re gone though. they’re gone, and abby’s weighed down by the reality of the isolation she’s felt since she and owen had called it quits... only now it’s real, and full, and they’re gone for good.
accepting that she’s got two people who are a part of a brand new family isn’t as easy as she’d hope. abby feels a bond with them, sure, they’ve all saved each other so many times in the brief time they’ve known each other — but some part of her is still resisting based on just the fact that they’d been enemies a few days ago.
ugh, why can’t change come quickly?
it takes a second before she processes yara’s words and lifts her head, “uhm, i’m okay, thanks. i run hot.” not completely a lie, “you two should focus on staying warm,”
