Prompt Request; Steve x Natasha
"This is probably a bad time, but marry me?"
When the Avengers were assigned a mission to Wakanda, Steve didn't think things would escalate so quickly. One second, they were landing, the next thing he knows they’re standing side by side the king and his army.
Everything happened so fast. Meeting the Wakandans, getting Vision to a lab, seeing Bucky again, standing across Thanos’ army. Before he knew it, he was running across the field, fighting the Outriders.
Minutes passed, but it felt like hours. Steve didn't have time to check in on everyone, every time he took one Outrider out, another two followed.
“Guys, we got a Vision situation here,” Sam speaks through the ear piece.
Steve stands back and takes a look around him, searching. The realization dawns on him and hits him like a ton of bricks. They’re heavily outnumbered, they could lose this one. He doesn't believe it, he won't stop fighting until his last breath, but he has to be prepared.
His eyes land on one Avenger to the next until his eyes land on the familiar head of blonde hair.
Suddenly overcome with the need to be near her, he makes a break for it. Fighting along the way until he reaches her, where they fight side by side.
“What are you doing, we need to get to Vision,” Natasha chimes beside him, spearing an Outrider.
There’s chaos around them, but he doesn't care. They’re fighting an army of ten together, he tosses her his shield, she flings her spear to an enemy behind him.
"There’s something important I need to do first,” he states, breathless.
“What could be more important right now,” she questions him, confused.
"This is probably a bad time, but marry me?"
She stops in her tracks and it almost gets her killed. If he wasn't there to throw her spear, she would've been a goner.
He leans toward her and takes her by the arm, pulling him toward her.
“I should've done this sooner, I know, but if we lose this. Half of us are gone,” he pauses to look at her with their fingers intertwined.
“Marry me?”
She’s afraid and he can sense it, she’s afraid to lose him, to lose the battle, to lose half of humanity.
“Yes,” she says strongly, with tears in her eyes.
“On my way, aargh,” they hear from Wanda, breaking their moment.
"Tomorrow,” she’s backing away, towards where she remembers Wanda was.
“You marry me tomorrow, Captain,” she smiles at him.
And he did.
